Tapirs are fucking awesome. I want one. There was this documentary on tapirs in a zoo the other day, and they showed a baby tapir. It had all these cool white spots and stripes on it. |

Jeanette's Wild World of Nature: Rare and Unusual Animals The Okapi: The okapi is a very shy African animal, closely related to giraffe. It is endangered. ![]() The Meerkat: Okay, all together now: Awwww! ![]() Meerkats are close relatives of the mongoose, and live Africa. Sometimes other meerkats will babysit the young while the mother feeds. The Hoatzin: ![]() This bird is considered to be almost a relic of prehistory, possibly related to the archaeopteryx. It has claws on its wings, which they use to climb. When threatened, they drop from their nests into the water, then climb back up using their wing claws. Hoatzins live in the Amazon. The Tapir: Okay, everyone point and laugh! ![]() Although it looks like a strange sort of pig or anteater, tapirs are actually related to horses and rhinos. They are found in Central and South America, as well as southest Asia. All four species of tapir are endangered. ![]() The Capybara: ![]() The Capybara is the world's largest rodent. It lives in South America. |
