PETA came to Churchill the other day. They had like, five picketers with the statement.... "EIGHT BELLES WAS RACED TO DEATH" Looks like somebody's a little lazy about their protests. |

What should the headline be this morning? I'm hoping for one of the following: Big Brown dumps Big Brown flushed Big Brown stinker Competition squeezes out Big Brown Horse's name takes new meaning after shitty performance (probably not gonna be that one) |

Belmont was probably the most amusing day I've had in churchill in a while. The insane revenue. Casino Drive scratched. Churchill's races are laughable. Calder is still dusputing. Big Brown lost. Yeah, you read that right. The so-called "hotshot to win the Triple Crown" failed miserably. NO BIG BROWN! |

As an answer to both questions, I did. Some sports follies show or America's Funniest Home Videos-esque program showed a clip of him. It's on YouTube, of course. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Kqj2hkbDnyM |

In the wake of the Eight Belles shit, Big Brown going down would drive a fucking nail into horse racing's already half-shut casket. Even though it would suck for horse racing, there is a silver lining: PETA members would cry. http://youtube.com/watch?v=iP4hAvR2M80 |

Now they're saying it may not be too bad, and he should be good to go. Even though a similar (more severe) injury kept him from racing for 45 days last year. I'd hate for his handlers to push him, only to have him come up injured during crunch time. |

pac-man | Big Brown cracked his hoof. Word is the surgery to fix it worked, but if the horse isn't 100% then he ain't winning shit.

WhiteRat | I say it's not going to happen because every year they hype up a horse only to have it choke.

Pentegarn | It hs been years since a horse won the triple crown. I would like to see it happen again.

Yeah, the Belmont is one of the longest stakes races. I think it's considered the toughest race to win of the triple crown. The most impressive horse race I've ever seen "live" (on TV during WWofS) was Secretariat's Belmont Stakes victory. What was amazing was that he ran it in (I think) the second fastest time ever, and he did it without any other horse within 25 lengths of him. |

MLE | I think that Big Brown can easily take the last one, because it looks like they've trained him to run steadily for a long distance, then sprint at the end. I don't know how He'll take the belmont, since it's (i think) about half a mile longer.

HORSE RACING. Anyone keep up with it here? Big Brown got the Preakness earlier, and Belmont seems very hopeful. I'm just posting this because I work at Churchill Downs and it's like a real-life USA Network. Especially on the bricks where I saw what appeared to be a crippled pocahontas. |
