KevinTheOmnivore Well, a few questions:

1. Would this be a military job? If so, how many suicide attacks have their been on American military personnel in Israel?

2. Also, I realize the whole area is volatile, but isn't Tel Aviv less likely to suffer from attacks? To my knowledge, it's places closer to the West Bank and Gaza Strip that seem to get it the most.

No

Do you really need to go to Niagra Falls to see that it's a shitload of water?

I just want to go to prove what a man I am.

AChimp When my uncle decided to go work in Saudi Arabia for five years, everyone in my family thought he was an idiot. This isn't any different.

Going to the Middle East when you don't have to is foolhardy, especially for Americans. You'd need to get a maple leaf tattooed on your forehead to take attention away from the target you'd have on your ass.

Do you really need to go there, just so you can say, "Gee, what they showed on TV really is true. They blow each other up. Whoa."

Adventerous or Crazy?

Yesterday I became aware of a job opportunity that I hadn't previously considered and have been thinking about a lot ever since.

In my line of work, I actually have the potential to apply for a position in Tel Aviv working in an embassy. In my head, it actually seems like an amazing opportunity. I have spent a significant amount of time overseas in the past few years. There are very few opportunities in my business to work in a place like that.

I fully understand that nature of the location and the risks associated, but they don't seem that daunting to me. I would not be able to go until roughly 2005 or 2006 when my current position "expires" so to speak. Regardless, in my head, despite the negatives associated with such a move, it seems for better or worse like a unique opportunity to get a first hand account and look at what's happening there.

Does this sound crazy? The few people I've mentioned it too all seem to think I am out of my mind for even thinking about taking a job anywhere in the region, much less Israel. Im just curious to hear from someone else's point of view if my desire to go there is irrational.
