FS I think this war could be resolved quickly just by bombing Liberia with discoballs and boomboxes that endlessly play "It's raining men", then drop half a million scantily clad, muscular paratroopers that are good dancers.

Sethomas I enjoyed a comment by Kurt Vonnegut along the lines of, with the appearance of desert camo it would seem that we're preparing for war in a giant Spanish omellette.

kellychaos The difference is that, in the right field environment, camouflage is logical, practical and WORKS. That's the first time I ever heard of the "invincibility" thing amongst U.S. soldiers. People seem to confuse the definition of "camouflage". It doesn't necessarily mean the fauna-patterned colors/pattern of a BDU (Battle Dress Uniform). If you wanted to invade a bread factory where hostages were being held, the perfect camouflage would be a bread truck with guys in bakers uniforms driving, NOT an APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) with guys in BDUs.

FS Of course, US troops can just deploy gratings instead of minefields and wait for the Liberians to get their heels stuck in them.

FS Unless you bomb them with matching purses...

FS Blast! I guess the whole thing will have to be held off until those colors go out of style.

"A male Liberian government soldier, wearing female clothes and a wig, stands guard at the Irongate checkpoint in the capital of Monrovia on July 8."

"According to the soldiers themselves, cross-dressing is a military mind game, a tactic that instills fear in their rivals. It also makes the soldiers feel more invincible. This belief is founded on a regional superstition which holds that soldiers can “confuse the enemy’s bullets” by assuming two identities simultaneously. Though the accoutrements and garb look bizarre to Western eyes, they are, in a sense, variations on the camouflage uniforms and face paint American soldiers use to bolster their sense of invisibility (and, therefore, immunity) during combat. Since flak jackets or infrared goggles aren’t available to the destitute Liberian fighters, they opt for evening gowns and frilly blouses."

Somehow I do not think that the bullets are the ones that are getting confused. My bullets would absolutely find their mark if I was up against those abominations.
