O71394658 OMG...GRR BIG TEXT!!! CHIMP IS ANGRY!!!
Aug 6th, 2003 10:20 PM
AChimp SEE HOW I WAS IMMITATING O'REILLY BY TELLING EL BLANCO THAT HIS OPINION IS SHIT?

PARODY CAN ALSO BE A FORM OF SATIRE.
Aug 6th, 2003 07:48 PM
imported_Hollycaust God you uptight fucks. Do the world a service and pray
Aug 6th, 2003 07:42 PM
Cosmo Electrolux It sort of loses something when you have to explain it to idiots, Chimp.....now this thread sucks

edit: now I suck because I can't spell
Aug 6th, 2003 06:55 PM
Perndog If only more people listened to Chimp, this thread would be a happier place.

Larry Flynt has greater First Amendment protection than Robertson because he deals in pornography, which has pictures of paid models that people pay to see and thus no one gets hurt and no one is even exposed to it without actually seeking it out, while Pat Robertson actively promotes hatred of homosexuals, atheists, et cetera. Larry Flynt says and does offensive things for attention and probably for humor, while Pat Robertson does not joke around when he talks about the same topics.
Aug 6th, 2003 03:31 PM
AChimp NO, IT IS NOT HYPOCRITICAL. IT IS IRONIC AND SATIRICAL.

ROBERTSON IS COMPLETELY SERIOUS, WHILE FLYNT IS OUT FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES.
Aug 6th, 2003 03:29 PM
mburbank I have no idea if he held this vigil or not.

However, I guarantee you that if it took place, therer were no seriously religous people there activelt praying to a divine being to actually kill anyone. If it took place, it would be a satircal act as opposed to satirical writting. There was no satire in Robertsons efforts, it was deadly serious, and if you think he honestly meant 'retire' , go back and read the statement. Anyone can retire at any time. Robertson mentioned the health status of each individual. And he is serious, he's not joking, and he wants this to happen becuase he's frightened that God hates homos so much he'll destroy the USA.

Now, I'm sorry, you put that up against a joke, in poor tatse or not, and one of them is an act of barbarity.

Anyone is free to be outraged or not. But I'll tell you, the way to get reveneg on satire is to ignore it.
Aug 6th, 2003 03:24 PM
El Blanco the problem is, he detracts from the same groups he claims to advocate. Go to his website, you will see he put a lot of effort to get actual "news" up about that shit and he has lots of people seriously backing him.

I get satire. Believe me. But, its hypocritcal to go after Pat Robertson for hoping judges retire, and laugh when Larry Flynt prays for someone to die.

I don't care about Flynt. Really, I don't. He is a sleaze merchant, but there is a market for what he pushes, so fuck it. I even laughed at a few of the fake ads he put in. Was it Gingrich who sued him over that one about his first time being in a woodshed?

why does Flynt have greater First Ammendment protection than Robertson?
Aug 6th, 2003 03:12 PM
AChimp FOR FUCK'S SAKE, IT IS FUCKING SATIRE. SATIRE DOES THAT KIND OF THING. YOU EVER HEAR OF IRONY????

LARRY FLYNT'S WHOLE POLITICAL AGENDA IS TO MAKE THE SYSTEM LOOK STUPID, YOU DUMBASS. THAT'S WHY IT'S SO FAKE.
Aug 6th, 2003 02:53 PM
El Blanco I have a way more twisted sense of humor than most people can stomach. I don't care too much for larry flynt and don't care if he just posted it in his magazine.

But, if people are gonna bitch and moan about Pat Robertson, laughing this off makes them hypocrites. Especially if Flynt really did hold that rally.

Its only satire, I agree, and the first few lines were funny. ITs just that he might have pushed it there.

And he is so full of bullshit with his fake political activism.

Overlooked and accepted? The same people chuckling over Flynt doing this crucified Robertson because he prayed for some justices to retire. Not die, retire.
You are such a boob.

THIS IS SATIRE. Obviously, you have no sense of humour beyond the family-friendly joke sheet that's passed around at Sunday mass.
Aug 6th, 2003 02:16 PM
Cosmo Electrolux oh yeah..my mistake. But then again, Flint has a history of this sort of grandstanding....his grabs for publicity tend to fall toward the sordid and sleazy side....appeals to the low brow readers of his fine publications...Chimp.

I am not a big fan of Robertson either, but my bullshit meter fucking exploded when I ran across this thread.
Aug 6th, 2003 01:31 PM
Cosmo Electrolux I think it funny that Pat Robertson can do practically the same thing an it's either overlooked or accepted..but let a crippled pornographer do it, and oh man...
Aug 6th, 2003 12:38 PM
AChimp No, that would still be satire.
Aug 6th, 2003 12:31 PM
El Blanco Max, did he actually gather those people in LA and hold a prayer service to wish death on O'Reilly? That goes a little further than just satire.
Aug 6th, 2003 10:57 AM
mburbank You need to be hit with a 2 x 4. Not sure what this has to do with this thread, but hat the hey.

Stern convinced the Liberatarians he was serious about running nd they should ditch their potential candidates for him. They did, and he dropped out of the race. I like Howard Stern nd I think Liberatarians are a mostly silly bunch, so I wasn't overly bothered, but it was still kind of mean.
Aug 6th, 2003 10:40 AM
The One and Only... What did Howard do to the Libertarians?

I find it funny. However, Fox is probably one of the only stations that leans to the right. Most of the media leans to the left, particularly in the U.K. (BBC, anyone?).

Also, anyone who thinks Bush is a conservative needs to be hit with a 2x4. Not sure what this has to do with the article, but I just wanted to throw that out there.
Aug 6th, 2003 09:49 AM
mburbank Okay;
1.) Hustler is a fairly sleazy magazine. Oliver Stone Movie aside, Larry Flynt is probably a fairly sleazy guy

2.) You might not personally find Flynts "Prayer Offensive" funny, but if you don't recognize it as satire I'm amazed. I'm fairly certain he's less serious about praying for O'reilly's death than Pat Robertson is about Praying for the death of Supreme Court Justices. You don't have to laugh, you don't have to like it, but if you take it at face value, I think you're being pretty dense.

3.) Same with his run for governor. It's a statement. He doesn't think he'll win, he's saying if you have a recall and your rules are this loose about who can get on the ballot, look what you get. I don't think he expects people to take him seriously and I don't think he's guilty of leading anyone on, the way Howard Stern did the Liberatarians in New York. Although I thought that was funny too.
Aug 6th, 2003 12:25 AM
imported_Hollycaust That man is going to be my new governor *wipes tear*

You can. But don't expect anyone to respect you.

AChimp Nope, because if O'Reilly dies, then the praying worked because he died due to God's will, see? It's the perfect idea.

Besides, he put a disclaimer on it.
Aug 5th, 2003 11:52 PM
El Blanco No, this makes flynt worse. I don't even care about the degrading trash he claims is journalism. Its protected and if there are assholes paying for it, fine.

But there is a huge difference between telling people off on your show( when they know what they are getting into) and calling for a public demonstration calling for harm to a person. If someone does something to O'Reilly, can Flynt be held accountable? Can this be construed as a round about way of ordering it?
