Windows Media Player Errors

I have two problems, and I need help.

1) When trying to view a movie directly from a website (just clicking the link, instead of downloading the file), most of the time, WMP says:

Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location, or the computer where the file is stored is offline.

But the file does download to my temporary files and all.

2) When trying to view a movie (either driectly from the site or from downloading), sometimes, the video freezes up while the sound continues. I have a feeling this is some sort of encoding problem (all my older files have no problem), so I was wondering if I need a codec or if the movie files are just fucked up.
