Sethomas Maybe I meant Phaedrus. Anyways, the tenant that I was referring to was that Platonic thought as outlined in one of the Socratic dialogs posited the existence of eternal and immutable forms for all qualities and attributes. Thus, the essence of triangles and squares precedes the existence of any tangible manifestation of them.

Okay, another Philosophy Question

...This time, Plato.

Is there any work of Plato (or Aristotle?) in which he talks about essence preceding existence? I've tried googling this, but I can't find anything.
