Zomboid I just watched the first episode (downloaded) and it wasn't as bad as I expected. It's still shit compared to the original, but it's alright for a remake of one of the most popular toons of all time.

That theme song though...That is just crap.

Comrade Rocket Thats were I remember Baxter from. I have his toy. Also I saw Casey in the opening. They better not fuck up Casey. I liked Casey. When we played TMNT i was always Casey.

Skulhedface Well, I STILL haven't caught it, I just read the website purely for nostalgia.

But I don't think there's much of a chance of getting all the classics on DVD, until Cartoon Network or SOMEBODY out there realizes there are thousands of nostalgic bastards out there that would pay for it .I'd wait for the markdown though... comparatively speaking, when you factor in the price for most DVD box sets by how many episodes you're actually getting, the median cost is usually about $10 PER EPISODE. I think you'd probably be better off going eBay. Damn it.

MrAdventure I caught today's episode on accident, and though I'm not completely disappointed, I can't say that I was very impressed either. Not something I'll watch on purpose, though it's nice to see a makeover.

When I heard it was taking more derivation from the comics, I had a small expectation for all red bandanas and more violence, though I suppose it was a pretty unfounded expectation for being on FOX KIDS.

I just have to wonder how they'll handle merchandising.

Ash37 The episode today was great. It introduced Casey Jones, who was one of my favorites on the old show.

I have very much enjoyed this show so far (aside from the theme song). I can't wait till the episodes are released on DVD. That is, if they plan to...which I really hope they do.

Krythor I haven't had a chance to catch it yet, but it seems like most of the criticism seems to be that it's not the same as the old cartoon . :/
Hey, Laird and...that other guy..said they wanted to make a show that was closer to the original comic, and by the sound of it, they've done just that. Sure, your memories of childhood may have been permanantly fucked up now, but you can always just order some old TMNT cartoons on VHS or something.
Speaking of, wouldn't it be awesome if they released all of transformers, He-man, Thundercats, GI joe and TMNT on DVD in some kind of 80's nostalgia DVD box sets?

Blah. I just hope thundercats isn't remade into a shitfest

Daphne nice analogy!
That's too funny, he's even Storm's 'nephew' so it's really apt.
Feb 26th, 2003 07:44 PM
Skulhedface I don't know ANYONE that read the comics or watched the old Fox show that liked that damn character. Can we say "SCARPPY DAPPY DOO"?!?

I fucking hate Spike, he's the one thing i can't stand about that show. He is living with the Morlocks now, let's hope he stays there and never comes back.
Ugh. He should have never been put on the show. Annoying "skater" kid who can shoot spikes. Woo . You just know they made him black to be politically correct too

Skulhedface http://www.ninjaturtles.com/

If you look in the Interviews section I believe, Laird himself says that April was originally Stockman's assistant. It's not PC for him to just outright say, "And yea, Stockman was black" so neither of us or anyone else for that matter is technically right. But I'll go with it for now, I suppose.
Feb 25th, 2003 04:05 PM
James I'll have to double check that. I have a ton of Mirage Turtles comics, but I don't remember Baxter being black (or even in them).

Then again, this was 12 years ago.
Feb 25th, 2003 03:25 PM
Skulhedface In the original comic, yes, Stockman was black and April was his assistant. The reporter in the yellow jumpsuit was, sadly, a fabrication for the Fox TV series.

On another note: I haven't seen the new series yet. I gave up on Saturday Morning Cartoons when they took Michelangelo's nunchucks away and gave him a stupid ass grappling hook.
"Hey guys, I can't beat anyone up anymore... but uhh, you wanna go fishing after this?"

I watched one episode of XME. Turned it off. They were too busy centering around Storm's nephew or whoever he is, the guy with spikes. The Fox series was better here, too. ::sighs::

More childhood idols smashed into bits. Dear God, they even have to re-do He-Man now? AGAIN?!?

Royal Tenenbaum If it isn't a comeback what is it? :/
Feb 25th, 2003 02:33 PM
Anonymous Why don't you?

*Note that I don't expect you to see this as anything but a 'comeback.'
Feb 25th, 2003 02:31 PM
Royal Tenenbaum Why don't you fuck him already?

Royal Tenenbaum That's what? Rejection #10004 for Jamesman.

I think most comics and toys were named "Ninja", though. Or maybe that's was just changed after a few years. Time to look up the old merchandising.
Feb 24th, 2003 04:45 PM
James From Nintendoland.com

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
One thing that the TMNT and Ninja Gaiden have in common is that their titles both contains the word "Ninja" and, as I explained in the text above, this was a too dangerous word for European kids to hear so the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was forced to be renamed to Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles! As a consequence, the games that Konami released in Japan and the US was also renamed. In facts ALL Turtles thing sold in Europe was renamed! How silly!!!
