Emu You can knock all the numbers and underscores off your name, y'know.

Level_Ten_Balrog43533 I bought the book, and I think it's ok. What really pisses me off are the assholes that buy each indihvidual comic to read.

Jay yeah, I can't stand the Hot Topic JTHM scene, and everytime I see someone wearing a Johen Tshirt with a cloth trenchcoat over it, it makes me want to kill them and/or myself. But I picked the comic up on a whime last year when I was at a comic book shop, and I think its a amusing read.

ziggytrix this thread disturbs me because it exists in two forums.

CrazyAmericanScum There is nothing wrong with Johnny, just the jag off that posted about it. I would say anyone with a decent sense of humor would enjoy it.

This is true. Jhonen Vasquez himself has said that the series wasn't made for the stereotypical "goth" persona of "depressed teenager wearing black and writing horrible poetry about how much life sucks", it was made to MAKE FUN of that type of person. Yet his audience, thanks in no small part to Hot Topic and its ilk, IS mostly made of of those types. Ah, irony.
Kind of like how Beavis and Butthead caught on with the crowd it was making fun of.

Bumping old threads is fun.

ziggytrix JTHM is good. It's a bit sick. Definitely morbid. But it's certainly more than just a comic about some serial killer.

oedipus_wrecked I once had someone ask me, "Hey, if you aren't suicidal/depressive/stereotypically goth/the "no one understands me" type, HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY HOPE TO UNDERSTAND ANYTHING IN JTHM????!!!" I think that's the huge problem with JtHM fandom right now summed up in one sentence.

Interestingly, I used to know a girl who worked at Hot Topic, and she said that most of the employees there (including herself) were hardcore Christians and HATED JtHM. They wished that the store didn't sell it. I find it odd that they didn't seem to object to anything ELSE sold in the store.

Drev I knew JTHM has been out for ages, but I never read it until I got interested in Jhonen's work when Zim started.

BTW, I've never been in a Hot Topic. :/

Also, I said knlownboy gave it a bad name because he kept screaming like an idiot about it. I'm not goth either.

BlueOatmeal It really is a funny book. But as SenorSalsa and Drev said "Hot Topicers" like good ol' klown boy give it a bad name thinking that it was made just for them and that its the newest, undergroundest thing in the entire world, even though its been out for AGES.

SenorSalsa I liked Jthm a lot, dont let those people who shop at hot topic because they think its an "underground" store scare you out of it as they almost did to me. Its more entertaining than having a point so its not like their philosophy or anything. But Squee is better.
