Come on! What's so complicated about 7/8 and 3/4? Do the people that say that even have a basic understanding of the theory of music? It's just counting, people. Even time splicing (combining two different 16th theme rhythms to make an 8th, like 12/16 + 6/16 = 9/8) ala Dance of Eternity has been done before, and better, by guys like Yes/King Crimson drummer Bruford or the dude from Confessor. Portnoy's overrated. Oh, and I think if you asked Carey, he'd agree that he's trying to emulate the way Bruford plays anyway. |

Then - Bill Ward. I also think (although not a metal drummer) Mitch Mitchell also deserves a mention here. Now - Either Mike Portnoy or Danny Carey. Mike is a spectactualr technical drummer, who uses some of the most unusual time signatures I've ever heard - Listen to Dream Theater's "The Dance Of Eternity" to see. Danny is one of the few drummers around who actually uses his drumkit as an instrument as opposed to just percussion or timekeeping - Tool's "Schism" in which him and bass player Justin both play the main riff is a good example of this. |

Queefer Sutherland | I'll choose someone random and underrated since it's impossible to choose one: Dennis the Menace from Macabre. Underrated as hell on both technical and creative levels, and his use of double kick is as intense as it gets. Great in the 80's, great now.

Meg White? From the White Stripes? Jesus fuck. Don't get me wrong, I've heard a lot of their stuff, but I can't even imagine saying that she's a great drummer. She's basic as hell. Next thing you know, Charlie Watts is going to be considered one of the greatest of all time because he can keep the beat. Guess what? That's what they're supposed to do. Keep the beat. That's why they're drummers. Listen to Don Caballero and tell me that anybody else even stacks up to the title of great drummers. The man is an octopus. |

The drummer from Def Leppard only has one arm. That's pretty cool. I'm done. |

Ninjavenom | Seriously, if you're commenting on a post right above yours, there's no need to quote the fucking thing.

Helm | And you thought it proper to quote it so we can waste some more of Mock's branwidth. Great.

But Reinert kills them all, especially in the "then" category Reinert is too good. It's pretty scary. But let us not forget the man: |

Helm | There's nothing wrong with Blastbeats. A metronome blast is a different kind of blast beat the Kataklysm like to employ. There's one kick for every four snare hits. Makes it easier to headbang to.
