Babs Damn, that is pretty fucking tasty. I'll try upload something I did real quickly to that website vocaroo. It's a lot of reverb and delay kind of stuff and just done quickly. Give me some time and I'll upload it and see what I can do.

By the way, havok is badass. I haven't listened to them lately but showing me that makes me remember how much I truly miss thrash man. To me, it never gets old or loses it's place in my heart. I'm going to have to put some havok on now. Time to dig into my hard drive and pull off some albums to put on my phone (the only thing I use now to listen to music, sad, I know).

ThrashO I agree, i used to play a PS2 game online called Tribes: Aerial Assault, the forums were like an internet home to me for years. Such an amazing community and a kick ass game back then.

Offtopic: You're not babs.

Cedar I guess most of the social interaction between people on the internet takes place somewhere else, like twitter, facebook, tumblr etc.
forums like these seem to be dying out

ThrashO Word babs ok after downloading drivers, dicking with settings, masturbating and stealing software I got it to record. Sounds quiet though, will fuck with it more tomorrow.

Babs Dude, I grew up on some good metal as well. I grew up listening to Death (chuck schuldiner), slayer, old Metallica, cannibal corpse. I saw my dad half the time since he was done dicking my mom so I would go over to his place half the time and him and his friends were alcoholics that had cigarettes glued to their mouths and played techmo bowl all the time and listened to a lot of metal while I was in the other room watching shirty old horror movies. I eventually picked up guitar since I was around it so much and it that's where that story starts.

I fucking love mastodon, I really enjoy the leviathan album a lot but the stuff you posted I've only listened to briefly with my friend but what I heard was badass. But get this man, thought this was interesting, I used to chill with the guys from skeletonwitch with my friends from Locusta. They would come down from Athens and play shows in columbus all the time. Beyond the permafrost is such a badass album, never gets old. I agree about new shit, it's pretty awful and lacks the aesthetic. Some stuff is okay, like I can get into some of Arsis, their song diamond for disease is pretty amazing though I wouldn't really say they're thrash.

Speaking of King Diamond, dude is going back on tour and is heading to Pennsylvania around october 19th. I guess I'm going with some people from my work just as long as I don't have to drive. I've never had a chance to see him so I'm definitely passing this up. I don't usually go to shows on account that I hate groups of people and people in general, but I'm not letting that get in the way of king diamond, can't pass up this opportunity.

Dude, that pat metheny guy you just showed me is fucking amazing. Vaguely reminds me of what steely dan does on their album aja, that album is smooth as fuck. They remind of zappa but more smooth about the art of nasty. Now you showed me pat metheny, in going to get as many albums as I can by him because I love more progressive type jazz. That and jazz fusion is like a wet dream for me. I've been really into guitar modes recently and have been writing a lot more jazz oriented stuff.

Now have fun with my book I have written haha. Oh yeah, by the way, figure that amp out yet?

ThrashO did u read it yet
Jul 14th, 2014 02:31 AM
ThrashO That is pretty awesome of you, I just got Ableton Live 9, about to figure it out seeing as I slept from 3pm to 10pm and then had 3 cups of brazillian espresso (shit will make you drop a quick fuckin duece) so I got all night to figure it out.

Man, so much music. I definetely got into music when I was super young. My dad and two uncles were heavily into the thrash scene when I was growing up. My dad did alot of construction, drank alot and pretty much listened to metallica, slayer and GWAR all day, my other uncle is in the army and a fucking badass and currently commands his own tank that has EXODUS carved into the side, and my other uncle has had alot of drug and alcohol issues but he used to actually play bass in a 90's thrash band that toured with a few big name bands. He is currently homeless and I have not talked to him in a long time so I don't know much about the band he was in, but I don't think they turned into anything (I mean... obviously).

Love metallica, but man, I listened to them so goddamn much and played so many of their songs that Its hard to enjoy them alone. I don't know, it is hard to explain but I'm sure you know exactly what I mean. Sometimes I will play a riff and think in my head "oh its that shit again" only because practicing something to death sometimes ruins it for me and I need a loooong break from hearing it.

but pretty much all of the classic thrash dudes, I can't listen to too much current stuff of some of my favorite bands because it's kind of shitty. I liked Megadeth's End Game, but that's really it.. I will admit I've given up and usually don't even bother listening to new shit. I didn't listen to Death Magnetic for like a year, and when I heard it, it pretty much sounded exactly as I expected

Pantera is pretty fantastic, Dime was a beast in his early days, kind of turned into a fat weirdo though, King Diamond is probably the most underrated metal group in history, dude just had open heart surgery and is making an album this year. Bolt Thrower is about as heavy as I like to get, I personally can not really get into complete screaming/growling metal, and I also hate when everyone associates metal with that shit. I feel blasphemous being so involved with guitar and saying that I dislike a certain type of metal that is so widely prevalent, but the only way I can enjoy that music is if I am at the show and the band is fucking killing it, then it's pretty awesome, however to listen to it alone or for enjoyment of music, I find it pretty redundant :/ Some bands blur the line between growling/screaming and technical metal and can pull it off well, other bands I feel like are a pack of teenagers who make as much noise as they can and try to pass it off as music.

Fuck dude I know I'm typing a book but that brazillian coffee is like a sack of coke. Anyways, I could go on and on about metal. Currently really into Havok's Time is Up, SODOM's Better off dead and a thrash band from ohio called Skeletonwitch. I also really love Mastodon's sound. I have not given their newest album a chance but I was not too fond of The Hunter. Blood Mountain though, is probably one of my top 5 albums of all time, if you haven't heard it I really need to post some songs I think you could really dig:

Municipal Waste, I've seen them several times, currently going to shit as they've signed to a bigger label, Waste in Space was lame, hazardous mutation, Art of Partying and Massive Aggressive are fucking awesome though. Annihilation Time is another band that I started liking after seeing them with Municipal waste, they are broken up as of 2010 but they are a perfect mix of metal, punk and classic rock and every album they have had is pretty incredible. The lead singer bounced and most of the band is Lecherous Gaze, They are cool and the lead guitarist Graham Clise I have talked to a few times on Facebook, awesome dude and down to earth, he says he is humbled to be living in poor conditions but he loves that he does what he loves. Can't say I blame the guy. Anyways, heres some shit by them:

Have alot of their albums on vinyl including two now rare 7"s that I got at their show for $5 a piece, I'm gonna be honest and say that everything this band has done is stellar. last album, Annihilation Time III fucking ruled and it's really actually okay to know this band never turned into sell out scum.

Alright, more shit, Joe Satriani is that nigga on a guitar, I have not listened to any Chicken Foot though, I'd rather not either.. White Zombie, Liquid Tension Experiment (petrucci side project, not a huge dream theatre fan), lots and lots of GWAR, amazing band, seen them nearly 15 times, the show really overshadowed the music IMO. Brockie's death has hit me hard, dude was very influential to me in everything he did... except ODing on fucking heroin like the metal junkies he used to write songs about Life will go on..

I'm trying to expand further, getting into progressive jazz as it turns out that is where some of the lesser known guitar virtuosos are. Pat Metheny blows me away, I need to learn more about him and his group, this live version of this song is incredible:

Takes off at around 3 minutes. Has his guitar hooked up to a synth that makes his guitar sound like a Trumpet-O-Shred. Beautiful music. But if you've watched that, you must now watch this. Just do it, im begging you:

ZZ Top, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Annihilator, Ozzy, Zack Wylde (Book of Shadows is fucking weird but I dig it), Boston, Zeppelin, Jimi, most classic rock, Madball, plenty of other metal, aside from that I love old school hip-hop, Illmatic is one of my favorite albums of all time, Techno/electronica and dubstep aren't half bad, more and more fuck dude i'll be here all night your turn wait one more

Babs Well, I can throw some stuff your way, at least some good recording programs. I can either mail them or try to e-mail you some. I'll look into a better way of being able to get your amp through your setup, I have ample time while I'm at work since we're always slow that I'll be able to sit on my ass figure it out. I might be able to get you a decent musical audio interface and just ship it to you for no cost, gotta help those out that keep it real.

What music you into by the way?
Jul 13th, 2014 11:26 PM
ThrashO (holy shit babs it's working, keep talking, niggas flockin yo)

I am pretty much looking for the free and, probably 3rd party physical devices as I am in brazil, and they cannot make a fucking thing correctly, and I only have about a grand in Brazillian Rheai left to get me through this next month and a half.

I have heard of Ableton, I will look into downloading it for sure now. If I can get this amp figured out I will record some stuff and try to get it on the interwebs.

Babs The way I was taught to get the sound of the amp you're using along with any thing else accompanying it is to use a dynamic mic (Shure SM57) and connect to either a mixer with an updated sound card installed on your computer, or one of these that has 2 XLR inputs with 2 preamps (Focusrite Scarlett) and use it with your DAW. I use ableton to record most of my stuff because it's not only amazing at recording what I play but really good for live usage as well and just all around using as an effects processor. Using an audio interface like the aforementioned Focusrite is very decent, but I have noticed that it can cause somewhat of a latency issue. It's all about fine tuning and what not but if you have the cash to dish out for an audio interface with firewire, I would advise it. Firewire isn't plug and play friendly like USB it is but when configured right, it's better than USB 2.0 (I'm not to certain as to how much better it is than USB 3.0). If I'm micing a cab with a dynamnic mic like the one mentioned above, I'll also use compression that I commonly use in Ableton, they're highly customizable and I haven't had any issues yet using it.

Anyways... that's pretty much the way I was taught on how to record the amp you want, and I must say it works amazingly. I've got some stuff recorded but I don't have it on this computer I'm on, all my stuff is on my external hard drive which I'll have to get from my.... *ahem*... mothers.

ThrashO I want a classical nylon guitar, it is so much better for finger picking stuff. I can play Classical gas and the intro to Good Mourning in a finger pick style but aside from that I stick to hybrid picking when it's necessarry. I really like to jump around back and forth with a pick, it used to be difficult and I thought I would always eventually Hybrid pick way more but I usually end up mastering a string skip if it's in a song or solo that I'm playing, I dunno, gives me a greater feeling of accomplishment, I will play the same thing in a variety of styles to find what I like the most. Sometimes the way you hit a string my look cooler if you pick it a different way, could be easier to play and more crisp playing it another way... fuck yes it is very addicting. Currently I am just in brazil, go to the beach, come home, smoke some terrible brown brazillian weed and play guitar all night.

My THR10X has recording software but It has not been acting right. I plug it in and I can change settings FOR THE AMP, in more detail, on the computer, and it plays through the amp. However, when I try to record, it does not pick up any effects, and it plays delayed as if there is lag, so it would be impossible to have something play and try to play over it through this program... So I said fuck it and have not recorded anything yet since I've been here..

Do you use or know of any software to record that would detect my amp? It's currently the only input I have on my computer for my guitar.

Babs I warm up to Megadeth a lot, especially holy wars... Punishment due. Has some of my favorite riffs in it. I used to do shows, but that was years ago. I've been into the idea of getting a DAT recorder and playing by myself and doing a lot of ripping off of ween. I forgot to mention I as well have an acoustic, it is a nylon. I'm really into classical and flamenco style as well, I go through brief periods where I'll focus on that, from time to time.

I really get side tracked into playing thrash and technical death metal or whatever you want to call it so easily, it's really addicting to play and I'm not going to lie, I like to be pompous about my more technical side. I'm not one of those assholes though who goes to a guitar shop and plays like I own the place, that shit is annoying and I hate guitar shops and the people who breed there. I tend to like to impress myself, I'm not to much of an outgoing person.

Anyways, do you record stuff at all? I have a little half assed setup I do some recordings on.

ThrashO I brought my Schecter C-1 classic with dual humbuckers to brazil and I also just recently bought a sick ass practice amp called a THR10X, it's a processor, no tubes, but the absolute best gain and distortion for such a small amp. Was about $300 but has a ton of effects and sounds better than my Spider III which is a beast. I have a few others, an old accoustic that I started on, generic brand, a beautiful Takimine accoustic that one of my ex's got for me, I also have a rebuilt Ibanez GIO with some nice EMG's and a floyd rose set up, also at home, missing that one because my schecter does not have a tremolo bar, however I've been playing more technical stuff and this guitar is purely built for shred.

I love thrash and it is what I started playing, and most of my excercises are based on alot of megadeth riffs, but I've really been into doing the exact same thing as you, working more on how I pick and how I play notes, I'd say more of a Boston/Satriani type feel that I'm really getting into lately. Ever play in front of people?
Jul 11th, 2014 10:23 PM
Babs I play a shitty strat I had to rebuild. Put new pickups and had to adjust the action on it because it was in pretty rancid condition. It's a hard tail, which is what I like because a joke ass hard tail. Put new saddles on it so it kind of sounds decent now. I used to have a really nice peavey triple x half stack, with a nice fender strat and esp jumbo frets neck through body but it all got stolen and sold by heroin junkies.

I've been playing a lot of more smoother stuff now a days but still get down on some of my old roots of old thrash metal. Really into lead shit like how prince plays, just tying to have a lot of soul behind things without being over technical but what can I say, I indulge.

And you my man?
Jul 11th, 2014 04:25 PM

Babs What led you out to Brazil? I've been playing a lot of guitar, as well as listening to a lot of Frank Zappa and Steeley Dan. Trying to expand my technical and chord progressions a lot more efficiently. Fuck me though, tell me more about your Brazilian adventure.
