Kilgore Cod Few years back I sold 100+ cd's on ebay. I just went to the post office and got a bunch of those flat rate priority mail boxes, packed them with cd's and sold them in bulk lots and put a $15 fee to ship them. I didn't make a whole lot of money, the most I made on a single lot was a little over $50, but I just wanted to free up space. I guess I currently have around 1700 cd's, maybe? Probably more.

JohnnyLurg I know it sounds crazy, but I predict that 40-50 years from now, there will be another CD revolution and CDs will become valuable and pricy once more.

Aaarg nooooo ideleted them onpurpose!!!

WhiteRat Well then ya better start convertin' them files bud!
Jul 9th, 2011 10:02 AM
Aaarg in like 2007 yeah

not many of them are still on there though
Jul 9th, 2011 01:09 AM
Ex Leper Have you converted these to your ipod first?
Jul 8th, 2011 11:06 PM
Aaarg yeah i guess. but my kids are going to be so fucked up anyway. i don't think they'll have a problem being exposed to the stupid music their parents listened to, haha.

i still have a lot of records. maybe someday when i'm at my dad's house and go through and see what's worth selling of those.

WhiteRat I have roughly 150 legit cds and probably 200 or so bootleg and I have no intentions of ever selling them. I haven't bought a cd in over 2 years and mainly use my Zune (yeah that's right) through the aux port in my car for music but I just won't part with them. When I was a kid I loved going through my parents huge record collection and because of that I discovered artists like Robin Trower. so I guess my hope is that whenever I find a woman to shit out kids maybe they'll go through my old cd booklet and marvel at the entire discography of Three 6 Mafia/Hypnotize Minds/Prophet Posse. Or maybe they'll just scratch them up for the hell of it. Either way cds are our generations' records, IMO.

As for DVDs, I used to have around 200 or so but 2 years ago I sold all but about 40 (the true classics like T2, Beetlejuice, Weekend at Bernies, King Ralph, etc. ). Recently though I've been pondering getting rid of all of them as Netflix has pretty much made my dvds useless. And whatever Netflix doesn't have I just bootleg from a torrent.

Aaarg i don't like tv enough! haha.

i think the only shows i have on dvd are UCB s1+2 and all four seasons of a bit of fry and laurie.

(but my girlfriend has and thus i have like every futurama and dr. katz and home movies and i don't even know what else)

I'll probably never buy a movie on DVD. I just don't care about them that much. But shit man full series' of great shows on my shelf? Awesome.

Aaarg i'm not one for collector's edition things. i don't know.

i collect weird things for a while and then get rid of them. this usually happens with rocks. haha.

also i checked my nes games against some current price chart. the total (for 50 games) is 77 dollars. highest value - battletoads (11.99). second highest - batman: return of the joker (11.50). third - tie: castlevania/gargoyle's quest ii (10.50)
so four games are worth 45 dollars. that means the other 46 come to approximately 32 dollars. nice.

Mad Melvin I have caught myself buying a lot of shit that I don't need, but I can't get myself to sell them. For example, I own some games I never play (or hate the fucking game in the first place) but the collector's special edition whatever was so shiny and pretty that I just had to have it. Especially if it was cheap. I own the collector's edition of Fable III and it's a horrible fucking game. But goddamn, the box looks cool on my shelf.

Maybe i'll sell my collection someday, but I doubt it. I'm too attached to those useless things.

Aaarg haha, yeah. but i'm the son of a hoarder. and i'm going to marry a hoarder, who is the daughter of a hoarder. i want to do what i can to remedy that, at least as much as i can.

also today i had to clean a spiderweb out of the bottom of my ghosts n goblins cart.

but i've been holding on to some of these games for 20 years. that's long enough!

though most of them i bought in 2004 and i only bought the cheap ones, so i have garbage-crap.

You do realize that the value of the games increase given enough time? If they're in mint condition, even more so. Just sayin.

I once inherited a stamp collection from my drunk uncle (when I was like 10 or something) and threw it in the trash. Later I found out that it would have been worth some serious money. Of course, I have no way to confirm the true value now, but I have collected stuff I think will have some value in the future ever since. True story.

Aaarg oh man don't get me started on dvds.

i didn't have much of a collection to begin with, mostly because i'm too ADD to watch movies by myself and i've never been friends with people who like stuff i like (haha, fuck). but i've inherited my girlfriend's dvd collection and it's great. so we have a like 7-foot tall bookshelf with nothing but dvds stacked on top of dvds. fuck.
Jul 8th, 2011 05:27 PM
Aaarg haha yeah. he's good at that.

young tom waits is great.

Mad Melvin I collect DVD:s in general. But I only collect movies i'm going to watch more than once. I haven't counted how many I have, but around 500 would be close. I also have a lot of TV show boxsets. Adventures of Pete & Pete season 3 I would buy in a heartbeat, but I don't think it'll ever be out.

And I like Rain Dogs a whole lot, but the rest of the Tom Waits catalog is still a mystery to me. I'll figure it out sometime.

EDIT: also, I am quite drunk at the mo' so I'm propably rambling

Esuohlim I COLLECT TV SHOWS ON DVD. I only have about 150 since I started in 2002, but I don't think I'd ever try selling them.

What I really liked about Swordfishtrombones was the gritty, sitting-in-a-blues-bar-at-2:30-am feeling, so if the rest his stuff has the same feeling then I'll be happy

Mad Melvin what the fuck man

nes collection?

what the fuck
Jul 8th, 2011 05:06 PM
Aaarg haha, fuck that, i give away things all the time.

but i have no friends down here and no job so if i can make a few bucks on getting rid of stuff, sweet!

i think i've almost officially gotten rid of my nes collection.

Mad Melvin BUT OWNING STUFF IS THE POINT OF LIFE
Jul 8th, 2011 05:02 PM
Aaarg i don't really feel like removing all the ones i feel like keeping. it's basically waits, fahey, young, and sete.

also yeah there's some other good stuff but i can just download 'em and not have to worry about them taking up room.

i don't like owning too much stuff.
Jul 8th, 2011 04:56 PM
Mad Melvin Wait. I don't get it. You wanna get rid of some CD:s and you make a list of them, but before the list you say you don't want to get rid of some of them. So which is it? And there are a shitload of great albums on that list I would definetly keep in my collection. Are you deaf or retarded or something?

Aaarg also i've found a bunch of radio show appearances where he'd just be hanging out and playing music and sometimes talking for like an hour or two. they're usually pretty good, but again i like his old stuff.

it's pretty funny to hear the difference in his personality between 1974 and 1975. in 74 he sounds kind of shy and young and a little bit awkward when he's talking about pool halls and 18-wheelers. then in 75 he's got that gruff, aloof thing going on.

Aaarg WHOOPS YOU GOT ME STARTED HERE'S MORE TEXT THAN YOU BARGAINED FOR

yeah he's changed a lot. his first album (closing time) is pretty boring ("ol' 55" is pretty good and the self-titled instrumental closer is good). the second (the heart of saturday night) is vastly different and i'm still on the fence about most of it. my girlfriend insists it's her favorite, but i don't know.

nighthawks at the diner is a weird one. it totally has this novelty to it (it's a pseudo-live album and he talks a lot on it) and a lot of the songs are less cohesive and more... tom waits rambling to some music. i like it a lot, but it's not the kind of album you can listen to out of order.

small change is great. the whole album is drenched in alcohol and for about a month i listened to it every night. i guess a lot of people don't like it? i don't know why.

foreign affairs is not worth checking out, ever. it's a shame, since it's directly between two albums i love. oh god, it has an embarrassingly bad duet with bette midler of all people. it's bad.

blue valentine is great. i don't even know why i like it so much, but i do. it's got tom kind of exploring different areas without being weird yet. i can't recommend this one enough, but ehhhh i'd go ahead and skip the first track "somewhere (from west side story)" because it's, uh, "somewhere." you know, from west side story.

heartattack and vine is not something i'd recommend at first. not that it's bad, it just... i don't know, it took me a while to get into anything past the first two songs, even though the later ones are good!

and then he did a soundtrack for a movie (one from the heart) and the whole album is him and crystal gayle. i guess it has some good songs, but i couldn't tell you which. there's one song that i like a lot, but the album version is sung by gayle and it's awful. there's another one that tom sings... and it's not on here.

aaaaaand then he was off hard drugs (or so the story goes) and he met kathleen brennan and among other things she introduced him to the music of captain beefheart and the rest is history. swordfishtrombones, rain dogs, franks wild years (i don't care what people say about franks wild years, it's also really good!).

everything he's done since the 90s has been pretty hit-or-miss. a lot of people like it. hell, a lot of people love it.

i'm more of a fan of old tom waits, myself!
