Thanks for the link Sniper. I laughed when Lee said "It's great to be here in New Jersey". I got all excited when I heard SNL the complete 2nd season was coming out on DVD. But after a bit of Wikiresearch, I found out Fear wasn't on SNL until season 7. |

I like hearing that kind of stuff live. I've been to a few local crust shows just recently, and even though I don't listen to it at home, it was very intense and exciting live. I don't go to punk shows that much at all anymore...this was to see a friend of mine in some project... |

| Naught | So is anyone into crust punk or D-beat at all? Alternatively, there's power violence, crustcore, and the like. I saw Discharge mentioned. That's nice to see, as they were a huge influence on the subgenre. Some bands in particular that I like: Iskra, Oroku, Wolfbrigade, Tragedy, World Burns to Death, Appalachian Terror Unit, Aus-Rotten, Amebix, Kylesa, GISM, Driller Killer, and Garmonbozia. I definitely forgot some noteworthy ones, though, and there's a slew more out there anyway. | |

John Belushi was really into punk at the time. I think he was the one who set them up with the SNL gig. I saw the footage years ago, and apparently Rollins and Ian MacKaye are among the young punks dancing during their performance. |

 You know, I have a huge collection of CDs and vinyl records. Everytime someone new visits me they look at it in awe. Then they start looking through it. Next thing they almost always do is shake their head in disbelief that out of all those records and CDs they have never heard of any of them before! I need to have the music in hand, with the album art. I never download music. Maybe that makes me kinda dumb, missing out on all that free music I remember going into debt several times when I'd discover a new music store which had a selection I could'nt find at my usual places. Specially if it was a place far from home that I was likely to never visit again. Now I shop mostly at gemm.com or a couple other online stores. Metal all started sounding the same to me in the late 80's. To me thats the 1st sign that a genre is done for  There are alot of rumors about who the members of Faxed Head actually are. Most people say Neck Head is actually a member of Mr. Bungle. McPatrick Head has been rumored to be Neil Hamburger, or a member of Secret Chiefs. Graph Head is said to have been Grux from Caroliner. I believe he is to, judging by the voice on the couple songs he sang on. The connection to Caroliner is why I sought them out in the 1st place. Uncomfortable But Free has some of their best songs on it, but is very uneven. Show Pride In Coalinga is one of my favorite songs by them. Exhumed At Birth has some of their best songs to, Gore And Guts and House Of Spirits blew me away the 1st time I listend to them. Their last album, Chiropractic shows a big evolution in their sound and is much more polished. The 2 that you have are now quit rare. I've seen them selling for over $40. Oh man, you are so right about the hunt! That is what the youth of today have missed out on maybe. It was so insanely difficult to get good music sometimes...but so rewarding when you found those rare nuggets! We used to go to Minneapolis to get punk and indie vinyl... Edit: Heh...I make myself sound older than I am. I became aware of the internet just after high school. |

shit, this be a double post, but Jomb... You know of Faxed Head? A friend gave me some of their stuff years ago. I still have it but, honestly haven't listened to it much. I have heard ( and this could be bullshit) that their singer is actually the stand-up comedian who calls himself Neil Hamburger. EDIT - Yes! Holy shit! I have Faxed Head's "Exhumed At Birth" and "Uncomfortable But Free". |

I hear ya, I like lots of stuff too, but it seems maybe 2% at most is played on the radio. No, maybe 3-5%, depending on the station(s). I think I started listening to punk because at the time (1987 or so), a lot of metal that I was into was just getting lame. I hate to say it, but Iron Maiden's "Somewhere in Time" album. Judas Priest was doing "Turbo", I became more disenchanted with the sol careers of Ozzy and Ronnie James Dio. Then there was the metal that, while wasn't crossover, pointed the way to punk rock. Metallica's "$5.98 EP", Megadeth's "So far, So Good, So What" with the their lame version of "Anarchy In The USA". And Anthrax's "Attack Of The Killer B's" where they did covers of Agent Orange and Discharge. DISCHARGE, MAN!!!! So, those 3 records turned me on to Sex Pistols, Killing Joke, Misfits, Agent Orange and DISCHARGE!!!!!! I guess what i'm saying is if a band I like does a cover song, I'll usually go check out the original. Downloading music is convenient, but I really miss the hunt... Getting your check, cashing it, setting aside money for bills and then hitting the used record store with what's left. Sure, you may want to find this or that, but usually it wasn't there. So, you dig through the stacks and the dollar bin and somehow find at least one thing that's absolutely fucking incredible. I bought Robert Fripp's "Exposure" for 99 cents. Another find was the first Blind Idiot God album for 2 bucks. Now... I can't even find a store that even sells CD's of stuff I might be interested in. It's all Wal-Mart and Target. Try to find KISS "Dressed To Kill". All you can find are 4 or 5 different "Greatest Hits". Try asking the manager of the Media department if he'll special order Big Black's "Songs About Fucking". Tell 'em you can get it through Touch and Go Records, this is their address and they are usually distributed by such and such. I'm ranting again, I know. I'd just like to live somewhere where thre's a goddamn record store. |

Jediscum - dialup? I feel sorry for you. It's been awhile and I almost forgot what its like. The quality of the video is low. I cant figure out how big the file actually is, but I was able to completely download the whole 45 minute show in 6 or 7 minutes. My connection is probably no more than 10 times faster than yours, if that. Speaking of GG Allin and The Ramones, I read that Dee Dee Ramone was in a band with GG Allin. I have'nt heard the music yet though. Someday I'll get around to tracking it down. Apparently GG was in a band that featured J Mascis, Wayne Kramer, and Gerard Cosley at one time. All I can say to that is WTF!?! I actually hate the radio. I went so far as to surgically remove the radio from my car once so that my ex-GF could'nt torment me with it while we were driving places. Snipped the wires to the antenna and told her it was on the fritz. Almost every radio station I've ever listened to was pure unadulterated garbage. The only exception was one time when I was living in the midwest, I came across a public radio station that used to have a couple really kick ass shows they'd play late at night. One had all the great old-school punk, I even discovered some really great stuff I had overlooked somehow all these years. I believe the show was called Scene Of The Crime for anyone out there who happens to be near St Louis. Though I dont listen to metal hardly at all anymore, I have recently got into a metal band. The band is called Faxed Head. Their music was very original and does'nt quite sound like most metal. They also had a very interesting back story. Apparently they were high school kids who were into death metal and had a death metal band, and everyone in their small town made fun of them over it. So they signed a suicide pact and went out in the corn field with shotguns. But they survived the attempted suicide and are now hideously deformed. The singer is in a wheelchair, and they all wear masks to hide their deformities. The music is actually strong enough to not become gimmicky even with that back story! |

I don't listen to radio much either. Fuck, I love downloading songs. Instant access to music - a top 5 invention in my book. So what I listen to changes day-to-day, completely dependent on my mood... Today it was Radiohead, REM, The Cure... |

Honestly, I never really got into Pearl Jam. Now, Nirvana... I actually heard "Bleach" when it kinda new and dug it. A year or so later, "Nevermind" came out and they got radio play. I thought that was great for a month. But they never stopped. The radio stations never stopped playing that song for what seemed like three fucking years and I started to HATE Nirvana. The same holds true for Metallica and their "...And Justice For All" album. It didn't really get any radio play, and I did like it for about 3 months. Then it seemed, I couldn't escape listening to it. They made their first video, "One", after swearing up and down they would never make a video. Then every retard on the planet started blasting it. I would walk down the road, and cars would pass by playing some song off that album. That was what? 1988? 1989? It's not a bad album... It was just played so much at parties or whatever, I felt like I couldn't escape it. Same with Nirvana. That's just a personal bitch of mine. I can like a band, an album and listen to it over and over. Yet, if I cannot escape listening to something, even if I like it, I get hateful about it. I just burned out, y'know. It's why I can't listen to radio anymore. Classic Rock - Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, and Lynard Skynard OVER AND OVER REPEATEDLY. It changes slightly depending on region but they still burn me out. The same goes for all these "cutting-edge" alterna-metal stations called "THE 'X' ".They'll play stuff which is tolerable, at best, but their playlist is like 40 or 50 songs. Ozzy's hit "I Don't Wanna Stop" was awesome when I first heard it, It had a really great hook, was catchy in a way I've never heard Ozzy before. Then I listened to it four times a day for two months. Now here's a man who can do a radio show... I like fried SPAM. ...and most music, mang. Punks and metalheads can be really narrow-minded sometimes. Some of my friends gave me a hard time for liking Nirvana and Pearl Jam at the height of their popularity, you know? I'm guilty of that too, though...but really good music can not be denied. |

Paul Di'anno was in a band called "Paul Di'anno's Battlezone" in the mid-late 80's I think. It's nice to hear he's still doing something. I got a slow connection (dial-up), so I guess there's no way I could download the GG Springer episode from YouTube while I'm sleeping , is there? So, I watched "End Of The Century", the Ramones documentary. Not bad. It's really intriguing if you're into the history of punk rock, as it has them talking about the bands they liked plus interviews with the bands they inspired. Towards the end, they have footage of the cocktail party after they were inducted into the Hall of Fame and you can see Jerry Only in the background. And I never knew that Dee Dee was in a short-lived and TERRIBLE rap band. I wonder if he opened for Kryst the Conqueror (har har har). |

I was unaware Paul Dianno did anything after Iron Maiden. Is it any good? He had just the perfect voice for that band, when they brought that opera singing sword-fighter in it lost something. My current band is more of a spacey, blues/rock thing; I still listen to heavy music, but I don't play it much anymore. I missed the show, but Paul Dianno (original Maiden singer) played here a few months ago. I heard he did a few from the first two Maiden albums along with his new stuff. Sacks is absolutely right about GG - and I've always "respected his body of work".

Eyelobe - There are still a small handful of metal bands/albums that I still listen to, but the majority of the ones I used to be into sound lame to me since I found better music. I still like my early Mercyful Fate albums, and Motorhead. Those 1st 2 Iron Maiden albums have stood the test of time with me. But most of that 80's hair metal is laughable to me now. noob3 - blink 182 is not punk. Maybe they have a punk-esque influence somewhere, but I cant see them as punk. They are to punk what Bon Jovi is to heavy metal. But anyway, who cares about that stuff, when are we gonna get gay together? When I listen to punk I do mostly listen to old school stuff because its just plain better, but I do own a Clorox Girls album, and its not bad. Sacks - OK, you may have a point there! But I'm listening to Always Was, Is, And Always Shall Be right now and would have to say its a love/hate relationship for me I was just going by you said when you said you were the youngest one in here. |
