If laughing and good humor isn't a major contribution, then let the world end right now.

mburbank Oh, I wasn't being flip, dear. I am sorry, sorrier than I can possibly say. And if you lot toss out Blair, you will have a better government than we do. Somebody ought to loose their job over thsi debecale.

Right now the English Lady of Liesure solution sounds fairly tempting. About a monthin the etal position under the dining room table and I should be right as rain.
Nov 4th, 2004 03:17 PM
cherry no apologies required Max. and i really didn't mean to come across as 'my government is better than your government'. my government swallows the cock of yours.
what I was looking for when I made my initial post was hope.
its my own fault I get so upset about the unjust politics of the world. Like the majority of folks I could simply choose not to watch the news, but I suffer with a rare pyschological make up; a control freak with an idealistic CPU.
I too like to kick back with the 'pointing and the laughing', its a very important survival strategy, but if thats all you do, what are you contributing? Since I hold out little hope of an afterlife I believe that in life, participation is mandatory. Sure, in dark days I envy the perogative of wealthy women in the 19th century who would just' take to their beds', shielding themselves from the difficulties of life. Since I dont have that option, I content myself with a different illusion; that through dialogue and discussion on an international level we may eventually beat the end of level boss with all lives still intact. unless anyones got the cheats?

mburbank Cherry, as an American I apologize in advance for breaking the world. What can I say? We're a video game culture. We think if your planet gets blown up you still have two more lives.

Perndog I'm not voting for him, but Bush is going to win.

bin Laden admitted publicly that the US government (aka: the Bush administration) severely damaged his organization. Shortly thereafter, the earth's crust shifted under North America as millions of swing voters shifted to the right.

Start making post-apocalypse plans. Since Bush is the incumbent, it won't matter how long it takes to resolve all the appeals and get the election done with. He's in, and he'll stay in for the whole next term barring assassination (which I wouldn't be surprised about, actually).

Meanwhile, as Israel continues to stockpile precision guided heavy bombs and glare menacingly at Iran's nuclear sites...

Supafly345 I decided a while ago not to touch these topics on this message board because everyone is biest and treats politics like a baseball game where you choose a team and it is your job to root for them. Instead of simply making your decisions based on actions. The few conservatives have convinced themselves that homophobia and destroying the planet are a good thing, and the legion of liberals try to pretend that it is possible for the world be be made of happy thoughts where bad things never happen as long as you keep your eyes shut.
They believe anything that further degrades the opposing team, and disregard or completely ignore anything that makes their team look bad. Some of the arguments are good, and have even changed my opinion before, but for the most part it is just folks constantly changing the subject thinking that it would help back their cause. And I don't want to be apart of that.

So if I were to vote for Bush, or if I wasn't planning on voting at all, some foreigner's plea to help prevent the re-election of Bush will not move me. Especially when they give no reason for their concern, making it look like they don't know why they are asking (I am not claiming her ignorance here though). In fact, if this did have any effect on me, I probably woulden't be a US resident or I would have to be the pushover of pushovers.
I don't come to i-mockery to sort out my political beliefs, I come to join with others who share my love of pointing and laughing. Anything other than laughing in my life is already politics, so unless you are combining the two, I have had enough of it.

mburbank I'm from Massachusetts to. For once I wish I lived in a swing state. But I'll add to Kerry's margin. While I think he's run a poor campaign, that says nothing of what I think he'd be like as President. I watched his work on unearthing ties between the Contras and drugrunners, BCI and our relations with Vietnam. He's a good man.

I'm 42 years old. I've been aware of every election since Nixon Vs. McGovern. I've voted in every election since Carter Vs. Reagan. I didn't like Clinton, and I hated Reagan and Bush senior. This is way, way, wat different. I never felt the soul of the United states was at stake before, and I never thought any of the previous presidents I disliked could do truly long term damage to the experiemnt that is the United States. I didn't like them as people, I didn't like their policies, etc. but I never feared them.

I think W's faith is similar to the Talibans, and the difference in degree is totally a factor of what's currently culturally acceptable here. I think he thinks the war on Terror is a crusade. I think he thinks God talks to him, or speaks through him. I thought all this before 9/11 and the so called 'war' on terror. W had won the electoral college (if that) but not the popular vote. One would have expected a unity government with several cabinet offices given to Democrats, especially coming from someone who ran as 'a uniter and not a divider'. Instead, he functioned as if he'd won a landslide. 9/11 only gave W the opportunity to believe he was divinely destined to rule more firmly. I tremble t the thought of the level of Hubris for years unfettered by the eventuality of another election might inpsire.

And then there's the supreme court.
