my dog has the exact same type of hair. The mats can be horrendous :( It's a problem because when you tell a groomer you have a standard poodle they immediately get dollar signs in their eyes.

We try to keep him cut short because of the mats. And he likes to frolic through leafy glades.

my dog doesn't "frolic" so much as "stampede". :(
