I tend to appreciate bands a lot more based on musical and technical ability as opposed to emotional resonance, which is why I love stuff like Zappa and hate stuff like Bob Dylan and the Beatles.

Get it. From the albums you are throwing out there, you'll love it. There is a 20 minute song on there that is held as one of Pink Floyds greatest. I also think that David Gilmore was at his peak in song writting on this one.
