I'd like to point out that the head upgrade in Megaman X2 is used to show you where hidden secrets are. There is a hidden life that you can only get by going through a secret wall which is showcased after you step out of the capsule.

This is the only place to use this and the game does it for you.

lol, thats what I was thinking when he got the life first too. I think I used to head upgrade to find the armor piece where you use the buzzsaw in the trash level though.
