Dollar Store Finds

So with all the crazy stuff Mockery was finding at the dollar store, I thought my local one would have some interesting stuff too. There, among cans of expired Vienna sausage and "Daffy TaffY", I found....

:loveC OMICS! :love

NO duplication!
Brings excitement to reading!
Brings the whole family together!
It's not easy to sell 2 dollar's worth of old comics. but at least they try.

Here they pretty much admit that they got these from the quarter bin.

Oh, and the Superhero card? Yeah...about that..

Mockery Jan 14th, 2011 07:53 PM

Haha, wow... that's not even a reprint. They're actually including vintage A-Team cards with those. So now we know: VAN = SUPERHERO.

Good idea for a thread btw. I would definitely like to see what other oddities everybody else can find at their local dollar stores.

Babs Jan 14th, 2011 08:15 PM

Show us the comic.

MarioRPG Jan 15th, 2011 10:40 AM

:x Quotes worry me.

Kitsa Jan 15th, 2011 12:18 PM

At least the quotes weren't around "sauce".

captain516 Jan 15th, 2011 08:08 PM

So is it actually poutine in a can or just the sauce for it?

here are the comics

kahljorn Jan 16th, 2011 03:30 AM

i guess a world of hawks would be terrifying

Tadao Jan 16th, 2011 01:44 PM

you would need lots of bandaids

dextire Jan 16th, 2011 10:31 PM

You guys found some seriously bizarre stuff! I've had poutine and it certainly didn't look like beefaroni. :x

I love that the guy on the cover of "young" all-stars has a mustache. :lol

kahljorn Jan 17th, 2011 03:25 AM

and earplugs can you imagine the constant desert hawk noise?

not to mention the poor lesser fowl :(

Tadao Jan 17th, 2011 10:37 PM

Man, having to wear full leather in the hot sun all day just because the world is 90 percent hawks would suck.

dextire Jan 19th, 2011 07:51 PM

I went to my local Dollar Store to see if I could find any bizarre goodies myself and did indeed find a little something to share.

THE HULK COLD PACK!

Yep, it was right there before my very eyes. But what on earth would the severed Hulk's head be useful for?

To cure Boo-Boos of course! Nothing takes off the edge of a headache quite like slapping a mini-Hulk's head on your forehead.

And what a nicely detailed head it is! One look at those rage filled eyes and you just know this thing can cure you right up!

Another nice touch is the cold pack gel is Hulk-green.

This takes the cake for the most ridiculous cold pack I've ever seen in person, and I now own it! HAHA! :)

MarioRPG Jan 19th, 2011 08:36 PM

HULK HATE BOO-BOOS

HULK CRUSH BOO-BOOS

dextire Feb 10th, 2011 01:11 AM

I made another trip to my local Dollar Store yesterday and did find something else to share.
But first you must witness the absolute horror that I wouldn't even dare to buy...

Smoked Oysters!

Of all the things I've seen at the Dollar Store, this was the scariest.
Well... the scariest product that one could buy anyway. :)

Now on to what I did purchase:

The Marvel Heroes Magic Towel!

I've almost bought these things several times in the past and just never did.
But the chance to get one with the classic X-Men; Wolverine, Juggernaut, and... Thor?
Anyhow, I decided to try it out.

For anyone that's never seen one (those that haven't been to the Dollar Store), the idea is to just add some water and the "magic" towel grows to the size of a normal hand-towel (apparently 12").

As you can see, right now it's a paltry 2".

So can this amazing product really add an extra 10" with just water?!

Watch the video to find out!

I shall never doubt the magic of towels again!

Zhukov Feb 10th, 2011 06:07 AM

I was expecting instantaneous results. Also, the bowl breaking.

Thumbs down from me.

The oysters.... ugh. I'm glad you didn't buy them.

Pentegarn Feb 10th, 2011 08:41 AM

That's more like a magic dish rag

Kitsa Feb 10th, 2011 09:19 AM

Someone purchased my daughter a Sesame Street magic towel, and the picture had entirely faded off by about the third washing :(

Pentegarn Feb 10th, 2011 09:34 AM

Not too shocked about that, they are made of mostly ink :lol

robo_rob Feb 10th, 2011 01:47 PM

Mine sells used clothing as well as off brand chips.

I was hoping for quicker results myself.
Honestly I'd been happy with it just, you know, unfolding on it's own. :lol

Behold mere mortals the mighty power of my MAGIC DISH RAG!
Watch in amazement as it doesn't soak-up any blasted water whatsoever!
Observe in stunned silence as it disintegrates at the first brush of a dish!

Yeah, Thor is already looking pretty rough after just soaking in some water. :)

Edit: Robo_rob it looks like smoked oysters' oil got on your t-shirt. Eww.

Kitsa Feb 11th, 2011 05:55 PM

He kind of looks like Inuyasha with an extra-meaty thigh.

captain516 Feb 14th, 2011 10:23 PM

Waitaminnut.. Rand? As in Ayn Rand? And Steve Ditko was an objectivist...
Coincidence?...or conspiracy? :eek

Sorry. I went to another dollar store in town, and it was disappointing. I thought I was gonna find all sorts of cool stuff, considering how packed the shelves were, but nope. It was all boring stuff like belts and spray bottles.

SupraGenius Feb 19th, 2011 01:22 PM

Those oysters are delicious, though. Don't poke fun at food that just seems strange, give it a try. It's an adventure! Makes me want to post some of my stranger food adventures. Though, if it said smoked "oysters" I'd be a little worried. I find completely random stuff in dollar generals and family dollars all the time. I'll take some cruddy pictures on my phone next time.

Shadowdancer21b Apr 2nd, 2011 05:43 PM

"Throw Gunfire from the Train". Wow, old comics taking ideas from DeVito movies. Who woulda thunk it?

All Hail Duke Apr 2nd, 2011 06:41 PM

someone should put up a garage/yard sale finds

Mockery Apr 3rd, 2011 02:59 AM

Yeah, this thread could probably be expanded to be about anything cool or odd you found in any store / yard sale / flea market rather than just the dollar store.

captain516 Apr 3rd, 2011 05:31 PM

I'm totally up for that. I just don't think I can deal with the looks people give me as I photograph their stuff.

Tadao Apr 3rd, 2011 07:18 PM

Sadly, they would feel prouder about their crap and raise it a dollar.

MLE Apr 29th, 2011 02:26 AM

Posting as links since i don't have time to shrink them. TOXIC WASTE candy.

These are as sour as warheads, and they seem to be about the same price per candy. Plus you get that awesome container.

Fathom Zero Apr 29th, 2011 02:56 AM

Yup, I've seen 'em at candy stores. They're pretty good.

Zhukov Apr 29th, 2011 12:12 PM

I don't see the really hot warheads around anymore. I can understand why they got rid of them, but I used to love wasting my pocket money on lollies I wouldn't even finish.

Kitsa Apr 29th, 2011 03:50 PM

I love those Chinese booths at flea markets that are just a bunch of boxes on the ground to poke through. I collected engrish before it was cool and used to have a ton of it. I've bought breast-shaped stress reliever balls (still have a bunch of them in a box somewhere), Benign Girl everything (funny to us cancer patients), and all sorts of bowls and notebooks that say bizarre shit. I have a set of bowls that say "STRAWBERY, THE SWEET FRUIT IN THE WORLD."

Last time I went, I got a cheapo umbrella hat for my kid (it broke the first time I tried to open it, and even after repairs it's so flimsy I'd never leave it on her for long), some weird washcloths with strange sayings on them (and a label that said DESIGN AND MADE IN US OWN FACTORY IN CHINA).

I also have a big collection of notebooks that usually have Barbie or knockoff cartoon pictures on the cover and are either a bunch of random words or things that must have been taken from greeting(s) cards. On one, Barbie hugs a teddybear as the text reads, "Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. I am so sorry for your loss". Another has a Paddington Bear ripoff holding a rose with a t-shirt on that says SAMPLE TEXT.

And so on.

I must take photos of these things someday.

hey wait, are those actually dangerous? like, could/should younger kids eat them?

MLE Apr 30th, 2011 03:56 PM

I don't know; I'm not a doctor.

Tadao Apr 30th, 2011 04:12 PM

As a person who thinks he knows a lot about everything, it's perfectly safe for kids to eat.

executioneer Apr 30th, 2011 04:13 PM

kids shouldnt eat candy they should eat apples only :doctororpossiblyhorse

I actually just got back from the dollar store today, and found Yu-Gi-Oh cards from the first edition set in Portuguese (not surprised, I live near a city with a large Portuguese population.) .JOGOS DE CARTÃO DE MOTOCICLETAS!
Last year I was in another dollar store with my friend while we were waiting for a pizza, and when we saw a bunch of barnyard kitchen decor, there was a ceramic rooster soap pump.

Zhukov May 2nd, 2011 08:08 AM

I'm doubly not surprised; Yu-Gi-Oh originated from Angola.

Lone Wanderer Oct 30th, 2011 05:31 PM

Dollars stores are so much wackier in the U.K., they sell porn DVDs!

Lone Wanderer Nov 10th, 2011 05:23 PM

Not necessarily a "dollar store" find, but the local comic shop I frequent sells nearly everything from action figures, Magic to LaserDiscs and Vectrex machines. I've been going for so long that the cashiers will just give me shit for free because the owner buys way too much junk!

Today I bought a mint Ghostbusters 2 RPG for $5 and over thirty uncommon Magic cards. I got 2 DVD's and the original Gran Turismo for free.

Amber Kush Nov 18th, 2011 07:44 PM

Does Family Dollar count?

Best ten bucks I ever spent.
