Merry happy whatever, let's get drunkers

My holidays are a mishmash of a bunch of other stuff. We do the best we can. There's Christmas stuff, there's Hanukkah stuff. I'm giving Mr. Kitsa several different varieties of He'Brew for Hanukkah.

Often we do the expected thing and go eat Chinese food. Our family has Baptist contingents and Catholic contingents and there's a little something for everyone.

Christmastime for the Jews!

You get to have the best food. I had to eat brussels sprouts today. :x

Kitsa Dec 18th, 2011 07:10 PM

brussels sprouts aren't that bad. pull the leaves out of mini-cabbage form and sautee that shit in some balsamic.

Fathom Zero Dec 18th, 2011 08:02 PM

Yeah, that didn't happen. That would make them good and require a modicum of thought.

My family celebrates Hannukah AND Russian New Years..which is pretty much Christmas, only 6 days later.

Kitsa Dec 19th, 2011 07:58 AM

We have a Greek Orthodox contingent to the family too, so they do their Christmas thing on what the Catholic contingent regards as Epiphany. My Greek cousin makes insanely good tyropita.

Today I'm making a gingerbread house and my liquor chocolate covered cherries and tomorrow will probably be challah, which for the uninitiates is a soft, pull-apart bread that's sort of like fluffy dinner rolls. It also makes the best french toast the next day.

bout to get some adult chocolate milk all up in here.

Today I picked up a bag of Hanukkah stuff at the party store. After checking out the cashier wished me a Merry Christmas.

Oh well, it's all good.

Fathom Zero Dec 19th, 2011 09:12 PM

Wahahahaha

Kitsa Dec 20th, 2011 07:43 AM

I was going to make challah but realized last minute that I have no eggs. Hard to make egg bread without eggs. So tonight we're having mac and cheese made with star of david pasta and probably some sort of veggies. On Friday we're going to start the Christmas stuff.

I wish I could just stay in bed and it could be just like a normal day. Instead, I miss out on seeing my friends, have to spend time with my family (who I don't hate, but I can think of better ways to spend an afternoon) and nothing good is on TV.

Plus I spend money on things I can't afford.

Esuohlim Dec 20th, 2011 02:43 PM

The spending money on things I can't afford part sucks, especially since I haven't really wanted anything for the last few years and I definitely don't break even anymore.

I've got some maraschino cherries soaked in something and enough vodka for a Russian platoon, so we're going to have a good time. Also the Christmas tradition of family wide Jagerbomb should be most enjoyable.

Kitsa Dec 20th, 2011 09:37 PM

jager, bleeecchhh

I made my mac and cheese tonight. Nothing beats homemade mac and cheese. This is three tablespoons of melted butter in a saucepan, stir in three tablespoons of flour, mix till smooth and then gradually add 2 and a half cups of milk. If you stir it over medium heat, it thickens like pudding. Add in a small grated white onion and two cups of shredded cheddar cheese, then stir until it makes a thick cheese sauce. Salt and pepper to taste.

Mix that in with hot, drained, freshly cooked pasta of your choice and then transfer to a greased casserole dish. Cover with breadcrumbs and more shredded cheese, and bake at 350F for a half hour or until it's golden brown and bubbling nicely.

Beats the hell out of kraft
