also info on the machine and whether it was bought or built, design schemas, etc., prz

X-Arcade is the joystick, but the joystick itself was customized to look like a NES controller. In addition to removing all the original graphics, painting it, and putting on a custom NES label, two of the buttons were replaced with red ones as well to further push the NES theme.

The cabinet itself it completely custom and was built entirely from scratch. There's a space under the joystick where a laptop running our game goes. If there's a glitch in the game demo, it just slides out like a little drawer and we reset it quickly (the trackball acts as a mouse on it). The base is also completely separate so it can function as a stand-up arcade cabinet or a tabletop one.

Here are some shots of the cabinet construction in process:

The demo isn't available on the web. Reason being, the game isn't finished yet and people steal flash game files all the time from our site and put them up on their own sites. It's really easy to do, so we'd rather wait until the game is actually done before we put it up online.

Any sort of ETA? Because Im about to pee my pants.

Shooting for a December release, but not making any promises. We're working hard on it, but still have much to do. The entire game was planned out in advance, but we often add in additional things when inspiration strikes. What we showed at Comic-Con was only half of the game, so there's still another 4 levels or so for us to finish. Making good headway on them currently and we will have it automatically save your progress in the game so you can come back and select any level to start on. I'll keep posting screenshots from the game on the homepage every now 'n then too.

Bottom line is, we really wanna make the game as perfect as we can before releasing it. With each level being a completely different game, there's a lot of room for glitches when you put it all together, so even when we've finished all the levels, it's gonna take a LOT of beta testing before we actually release it. And even then, I'm sure there will be bugs we didn't catch haha.

It'll all be well worth the wait though, I promise. :picklehat

Speaking of which, if there are any NES games/characters you guys would like to see referenced in the Abobo game, please post them here and we'll see what we can do to fit 'em in somewhere. The game already has a bajillion references, but there's always room for more.

Dimnos Aug 6th, 2010 04:01 PM

Man I cant wait! :)

Nick Aug 7th, 2010 12:10 AM

Castlevania characters please. :3

Fathom Zero Aug 7th, 2010 12:13 AM

This should be an app on an iDevice. :O

But I guess that's a lot to ask for something you guys're doing just for the fun of it.

I mentioned it once before, but if you don't have Karnov in your game you need to put him in there. Preferably both the one from his namesake game and the one from Bad Dudes

Photos from the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con have finally been posted live! You'll see lots of characters playing on our Abobo's Big Adventure arcade cabinet in addition to all the usual Comic-Con madness. Check it out:

What size monitor did you use for the excellent cabinet?

Mockery Aug 26th, 2010 12:59 AM

It was a 19" monitor.

Also, here's a belated interview I did during Comic-Con and you'll get to see some more footage of Abobo's Big Adventure in action during the interview... plus a secret about one of our other games:

This is so awesome, I'm going to show up, play the game, and be that awkward guy introducing himself to other members and giving too much physical contact.
