SECRET SANTA PARTICIPANTS: SHARE YOUR INTERESTS!

So, one thing I hear from some of the Secret Santa participants every year we do this is that they don't really know the person they're buying gifts for all that well. As a result, some of you aren't sure what to buy the person you're assigned to in the Secret Santa event.

While I tend to not even think about what my recipient is interested in and simply try to get them something they wouldn't normally buy for themselves to create a more fun / surprising Secret Santa experience, I understand that some of you may not want to do it that way and simply want to give them something you know they'd like. With that in mind, I'm opening up this thread for all participants to post their interests in. Just share some basic details about yourself (ie: what kind of movies you like, your hobbies, etc.) if you want your Secret Santa gift giver to know a little more about yourself.

Note:
Just because you post some info about yourself in this thread, it does NOT mean your Secret Santa needs to take these factors into consideration when they buy your gifts. It's totally up to them whether to buy you something related to your interests or to go with something more surprising. Again, this is totally optional for both the buyer and the receiver to participate in.

I'd start off the thread myself, but a) I like to be surprised and b) you guys already know about all my interests because of this huge site which chronicles my brain. :O

This thread was an excellent Idea, I will definitely use this page as reference this year and years to come.

I personally wouldn't mind flee market items, especially if they were old toys or hard to find or obscure CD's or VHS titles.

I love horror movies but my collection (movies & otherwise) is shamefully small. My DVD Collection

Anything that was written about on this site (other than video-games*) would be excellent choices.

My shirt size is XXL

Surprises are cool too.

* I'm horrible at video-games, they make me feel stupid

I don't mind being surprised, but I suppose if you wanted any kind of guidance..

I geek out on learning about other cultures. I am a film and music geek. I have come to deeply appreciate foreign film. Most of the foreign films I have are Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. I have a few French and a German film. I would love to see more well made foreign films. I have thing for interesting pens and stationary/notebooks. I love Classic Horror films. What else? I am not much a girly girl. I am more tomboyish in nature. I have lots of interests but those are a few.

honestly I cant think of anything that would make me sad to get, I'd be happy with something completely random! but...

anything I can display would be pretty cool, so signs, posters, action figures, models, whatever would be pretty neat to get.

Pentegarn Nov 10th, 2010 06:14 AM

Movies I like: Comedies mostly
Hobbies: Board Games, tabletop gaming, bowling, reading, I also collect old school vidjamagames from the cartridge era
Miscl: I like tasty things too

The Leader Nov 10th, 2010 08:30 AM

I like old action figures, new action figures, broken action figures, parts of action figures.

Model kits and comic books are cool too. I like to build stuff out of old toys and models and things so yeah. Just send me dollar store yoga tapes for pregnant women or something.

basic interests/possible gifts include:
  • A am a film geek and love obscure films and cult films
  • I like collecting things for my home office, magnets, action figures, mini-posters, postcards, etc...
  • I am slowly bulding a collection of christmas ornaments, any ornament to add to my tree would be warmly recieved

That literally made me lol

For general taste, I like stars, hearts, 80's styled things, blue, pink, black, purple, artsy accessories/jewelry.

If someone wants to get something more specific, I like fingerless arm warmers (size small always fits), metal lunchboxes, rey mysterio, sketchbooks, tiny detail brushes, old WWF stuff (Size L shirt), strange or really bright nail polish (I don't mind cheapies on this -sometimes they're better!), and prismacolor pencils (not ultra-thin - they don't feel the same.)

AlliSabbah Nov 11th, 2010 10:15 AM

Lets see. I like comics, magic cards, video games, women, food, wrestling (Its what I do) music ( Cept country and rap. )

Esuohlim Nov 11th, 2010 01:54 PM

You got it. One case of Lucky Charms coming your way

Zhukov Nov 11th, 2010 08:54 PM

I like books, science fiction, graffiti zines, toys, 80s-90s hip hop vinyl (or any other interesting vinyl) back issues of Socialist newspapers and lollies.

But that's not a wish list, and I always enjoy a surprise.

dextire Nov 12th, 2010 05:36 PM

Well, my favorite thing I've ever received in a SS type of deal is a big case of various bizarre sodas.
But I don't really have any kind of wish list and I love to be surprised. :xmas1

Interests

Let's see. Well. I'm a huge fan of Wierd Fiction. I love reading the staples of the Cthulhu Mythos, like HP Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and am currently reading an omnibus of Robert E. Howard short stories. I love the Conan the Barbarian trade paperbacks that Dark Horse has been rereleasing lately. I've got all of those thus far. Loving the new Walking Dead show on AMC - been reading those TPBs for years.
Just started playing World of Warcraft again recently after a several month hiatus. I'm still up in the air about buying the new expansion in December. Maybe.
Last good book I read was "Psycho: The True Story of Ed Gein the Butcher of Plainfield." Very good read. I bought a Nook from Barnes and Noble back in September. I'm always looking for good reads to download on that.
Playing Mafia II on the XBox 360 when I get the chance. I've been wanting the Zombie Expansion DLC for Red Dead Redemption. Loves me some zombies.
Can't go wrong with history. I've got a BA in History from the University of MS, and I really geek out on Japanese History or the evolution of weaponry. Pointy things, things that go boom. Watching the battle scenes of Braveheart is like sex to me.
I've got some manga and anime that I bought when I was a huge geek back in high school. It's dwindling these days as I lose interest in some of the more fringe stories. I generally like the off the wall, slapstick type stuff. You know, big eyes, gigantic titties, silly stuff. Always good for a laugh.
Oh, one of my favorite TPB series is Hellboy or BPRD. I hit that stuff hard after I first saw the Hellboy movie.
I love old comedy/horror movies. Think about all the old movies they used to show on USA's Up All Night. Night of the Demon, Monster High, Zapped Again - junk like that.
I like B movies from the 70s. Just about ANY Charles Bronson movie. I recently watched an AWFUL Chuck Norris movie from the 70s called Breaker Breaker, where he's a Zen Truck Driver. Absolutely awful. I loved it.
I paint Warhammer Fantasy miniatures. Well, that is to say, I have an army, and I have alot of paint, but they're so damned tiny! If I'd get my stuff together and paint it, it'd be fantastic - 2000 point Dwarf army "The Iron Hill Underborers."

That's all I can think about for the moment. I'm pretty dull I suppose.
Thank GOD for my massive genitals.

The Leader Nov 14th, 2010 06:04 PM

How about a football?

Esuohlim Nov 14th, 2010 06:16 PM

:lol

Samfucius Nov 15th, 2010 02:18 AM

I like quirky things all else, because conversations about an interesting object are often times more interesting than the object itself. I also love DIY books, as well as posters/decorations. Musically, I like everything except country, and I love pretty much all movies, with a definite horror emphasis.

I also adore toys. The only video game system I currently use is a DS.

Give me something completely out of left field, please?

Nick Nov 27th, 2010 11:45 AM

If it's something that would probably show up in an article on I-Mockery.com there is a big chance that I will absolutely adore it.
