Posted about a problem with his pirate version on the official forum, and he didn't even bother to check if the game was even out yet.

Such failure.

Microshock Sep 8th, 2009 11:03 PM

It'll be broken before the game even comes out. GTA4 tried something like this as well

Tadao Sep 8th, 2009 11:42 PM

All this will only matter if they fine the guy.

darkvare Sep 8th, 2009 11:54 PM

they'll find a way to get around this but as for now the guy is toasted also the guy that told him that it was anti piracy told him where to attack

Fathom Zero Sep 9th, 2009 12:49 AM

The thing is that it's a leaked copy. Potentially unfinished and they can still add more stuff like that to it.

executioneer Sep 9th, 2009 01:07 AM

haha what a goddamn idiot that guy is, asking on their official forums

executioneer Sep 9th, 2009 01:11 AM

on a side note, though: since they still haven't learned that putting securom and limiting the number of installs in a pc game is a FUCKING STUPID ASS IDEA, they deserve to get their game pirated

Fathom Zero Sep 9th, 2009 01:45 AM

I hate it, and to a certain extent, Steam is bad about it. The fact that you have to start Steam online in order to run it offline is bullshit.

It's why I love Good Ol' Games.

executioneer Sep 9th, 2009 01:50 AM

you could always pay for it and THEN pirate it

best of both worlds

Fathom Zero Sep 9th, 2009 02:01 AM

I do that with music and PSP games.

I don't wanna rip that shit myself.

Dr. Boogie Sep 9th, 2009 03:52 PM

The thing I don't like about Steam, apart from forcing you to download patches that can break your game, is that the licensing agreement states that if the Steam program is ever shut down, the company is under no obligation to offer fixes so that you can play their games offline.

Steam may not exactly be on its way out right now, but if it ever does, and you want to play a Steam game, you're SOL. Your only option will be to wait and see if the pirates will come up with a way around it, or otherwise just download a new warez copy.

Microshock Sep 9th, 2009 04:30 PM

I've said that before. Digital content is not the future for retail games. Full retail games are so stupid to buy digitally, you can't sell it,you can't trade it, you can't do anything with it really.

It's good for smaller games like 1943 or games you'll play all the time like TF2, COD4, CSS. But stuff like Steam should never ever take over

I've had tons of problems with not bieng to play COD : W@W because steam won't figure out how to give us the patch till 1 and 1/2 a week after. There is a way though, if you go into your reg, you can change (Digital Distribution) to something else, I forget, maybe something other than steam. Then you can apply the patch and download the newest nocd crack for that patch. I know it sucks, but fuck man, whatchagonnado other than never buy from them again ever, which is what I decided to do.

Fathom Zero Sep 9th, 2009 04:56 PM

I buy shit from them when it's on sale and maybe some little one-off indie games that I couldn't give a fuck about after I play them once, anyway.

Tadao Sep 9th, 2009 05:09 PM

Yeah, that's Docs point I think. They have made it too unfriendly to the point were no one wants to buy a new more pricey game from them any more.

I read that before and it instantly reminded me of Quake 3. How do they know who has the legit account? I hope it's not because games are registered with a series of unobtainable numbers and letters. That didn't work for Id when people made keygens and a ton of people who actually bought the game ould no longer play it. It became a real big mess.

Microshock Sep 9th, 2009 07:32 PM

Killing Floor is a pile of garbage, and you know what I can do with it now? Nothing. It sits there, I can't even "hide" it off the games list.

I know impulse is better, and that they're trying to find a way to let you sell games. If they do that, and let you trade it around, then wow that'd be great

Tadao Sep 9th, 2009 07:38 PM

I keep hearing whispers in here. As if someone is trying to be heard, but they died a long time ago. Spoooooooky

Chojin Sep 9th, 2009 07:52 PM

Steam is great. My preference generally goes like this:

1. Steam
2. Piracy
3. Retail

Steam is just way too convenient and fast, and retail is too cumbersome and up its own ass with anti-piracy shit. I also really appreciate that I can just delete games to save HD space or reformat and just get them again in a few minutes later. Or that I can go to a friend's house and let him demo a game on my account. Or share an account with a few friends for single-player games. OH NO I HAVE TO START STEAM TO PLAY GAMES I MEAN I ALSO RUN ABOUT 1,000 OTHER SERVICES BUT STEAM HAS THE DECENCY TO SHOW UP IN MY SYS TRAY AND THAT MAKES MY GAY SELF ANGRY

GUYS STEAM IS USING 40 MEGS OF RAM RIGHT NOW
THAT IS 40 MEGS I WILL NEVER GET BACK
OUT OF MY 4,000
I MEAN MY IM CLIENT USES TWICE AS MUCH, BUT I AM ON THE INTERNET AND I HAVE OBNOXIOUS UNINFORMED OPINIONS FOR YOU TO HEAR

WHY CAN'T I SELL MY DOWNLOADED GAMES THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS
LET ME GET MY RIGHTFUL $2.50 + SHIPPING YOU NAGGERS

Tadao Sep 9th, 2009 07:56 PM

I think you pay for a faster internet connection than I do. To reinstall COD W@W has taken the better part of a day from steam.

Chojin Sep 9th, 2009 07:57 PM

yeah, i can't recommend steam for ISDN users

DIRECTOR'S CUT: or just burn the appropriate steamapps folder to a DVD if you'd rather have a disc

OR: do the same thing over your network and install about 10 copies of a game at once without queering around with dvd drives
