Why the left hates talk radio

Maybe we could call it a war council of sorts. A far-left cabal known as "Campaign for America's Future" held a little three-day conference in Washington, D.C., last week. The meeting was highlighted by attacks on the evil, menacing conservative media ... including, of course, talk radio.

For generations, the left controlled the major mass-media outlets in this country including (without limitation, as the lawyer's say) CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and more. Now, the wonderful world of cable television and talk radio have changed things. There is one cable network out there, Fox News, that doesn't seem to toe the leftist line, and liberals are fit to be tied. But their feelings about Fox News are almost benign when compared to their thoughts on talk radio.

One conference speaker said "I turn on the radio, and I hear these talk shows with right-wing drunks calling in, and I ask myself, where are our drunks?"

So, there you go: If you call a talk-radio show and express a thought or idea that doesn't toe the leftist, big-government, anti-individualist line ... you're a "drunk."

I actually have a bit of sympathy for these socialist bedwetters. They've had it their way in the nation's media for so many years, and now that's changing. The agony must be terrible for them to bear.

This past Sunday, for instance, I was listening to one of those terminally boring public-service interview programs on a Southeast Florida radio station. A department store manager was being interviewed about his store's efforts in promoting a drive to collect groceries for a local food bank. This manager moaned about the millions of children in this country who are "dependent" on the school-lunch program for their one good meal of the day.

Ah ... that sounds so touchy-feely and compassionate, doesn't it? All of these children in need. Makes you just want to cry. Then, along comes some wiseacre radio talk-show host who points out that many of these kids are wearing designer clothes and hundred-dollar sneakers while whey shuffle to their tables with their "free lunch." You start to hear that many of these children gobbling down "free food" come from families with some pretty hefty incomes. So, there you go again: This talk-show host is telling people things you would rather not have them hear. Your agenda is wounded.

On another day, the government presents its latest poverty figures. Alas, more Americans are "living in poverty" than ever before. Sounds like it's time for some new grand government spending programs, doesn't it? Then an evil right-wing talk-show host points out that you can have a net worth of over a million dollars in this country, and still be designated by the government as "living in poverty." You start to wonder just how legitimate those poverty figures are and – darn it! – there goes the support for the new spending programs.

Can we pause for a moment here while we try to feel their pain? Imagine how these big-government liberals feel? For decades they didn't have to worry about the other side of the story getting any real coverage. Now they actually have to defend their positions! Do you think grief counseling would help?

We can also understand just why the left is so mightily upset with Fox News right now. During the last few weeks, there has been contentious debate of President Bush's tax-cut plans. Just last week, the Senate, in a disgusting 94-2 vote, decided to send $400 checks to low-income "taxpayers" for every dependent child in their household.

And what happens? Along come those nasty Nazis over at Fox News who point out, in newscast after newscast, that the people who are going to be getting these checks don't pay taxes. In the liberal world, revealing that these people aren't actually taxpayers is very close to heresy.

The latest barrage of hate from talk radio will be about Hillary's book. Do you think that CBS, ABC or NBC will tell you that she didn't actually write it? Yeah, sure they will. But talk-show hosts will! You might even hear that on Fox News! Oh … the hate!

And somewhere in this great land, some talk-show host (probably me) is going to divulge the fact that Hillary Clinton is a life-long accomplished liar of pathological dimensions. This can be nothing but hate speech, true or not.

So, as campaign 2004 approaches, look for more gatherings of frightened liberals dedicated to ending the plague of Fox News and talk radio. Truth hurts.

PUSH YOUR THPIT VALVE, VINTH, BEFORE YOU EXTHPLODE!!

While that looked like it might have been another source, it's Vinth's idol and substitute brain, Boortz. Shockeroo.

"A department store manager was being interviewed about his store's efforts in promoting a drive to collect groceries for a local food bank."
-Boortz's own description of an interviewie who pissed him off by 'Moaning'.

"Then, along comes some wiseacre radio talk-show host who points out that many of these kids are wearing designer clothes and hundred-dollar sneakers while whey shuffle to their tables with their "free lunch." You start to hear that many of these children gobbling down "free food" come from families with some pretty hefty incomes. So, there you go again: This talk-show host is telling people things you would rather not have them hear. Your agenda is wounded. "

-Boortz, describing, most likely himself. The department store manager has actually run a charitable food drive for children. Maybe it was misguided, if Boortz is right, but a bad thing to do? How does he know children are wearing designer clothes and hundred dollar sneakers? Just 'cause he says it? They don't walk, they "Shuffle", they don't eat, they "Gobble". It's not my 'agenda' that's wounded, it's my basic humanity. Why, I have to wonder, is this guy so full of bile? Why can't he even try to make a point without being ugly, spiteful, angry, mean? What is so attractive about these qualities for him?

THIS is why I hate Right Wing Media. Unsubstantiated, blisteringly hot wind, blown not just once, but over and over as it fills the rubbery, balloon like heads of multiple cut n' paste parrots.

Actions based on facts in the real world is what matters, Max. Conservatives/libertarians are the masters of this. Liberals, like yourself, do nothing but talk about feel-good actions that result in zero or negative world change.

mburbank Jun 11th, 2003 10:04 AM

Huh.

Food drive vs. Talk radio.

In a food drive, you gather food and then distribute it.

In talk radio, you... talk.

Which of those is just talk now?

VinceZeb Jun 11th, 2003 10:34 AM

Talk Radio has helped raised millions of dollars for many causes. Money that is given freely by people who truly need help. I don't see you metioning that anywhere.

mburbank Jun 11th, 2003 10:42 AM

You don't see it because I didn't mention it. I told you why I hate talk right wing talk radio. That's what I was talking about.

"Money that is given freely by people who truly need help."
Vinth

You truly need help. I'm gonna guess that you mean the money goes 'TO people who truly need help'. If you want to talk about that, 'show' an example. I'm not all that familliar with Boortz but he doesn't seem like the fund raising type. I'm not picky. I'll take any example. Gotta be right wing, gotta be talk radio, gotta be fundraising, funds gotta go to people who truly need them. I know, I know, you're not lexus nexus, it's just to gosh darn hard for you to actually back things up, but if you 're gonna cry about things you didn't see me mention, you could at least give one single example.

"In the time it took you to type that out you were Jewish!"
-Anna Mae Clambake

kellychaos Jun 11th, 2003 10:46 AM

Isn't the idea of charity performed by private citizens and businesses rather than the government one of the tenants of the right wing mind?! ... laissez faire ... the economy will take care of itself if left alone by big government. Cheese and crackers! It's nearly the "Golden Rule" of libertarianism ... but I guess it's wrong if done by the lefties. :rolleyes Go away mosquito! >:

VinceZeb Jun 11th, 2003 10:50 AM

Maybe you can get a radio program, max. I'm sure you would get a lot of listeners... Not.

You are right, Kelly. But whining about the school breakfast programs is a leftist tennant. Isn't my job to feed people who's parents would rather buy them the new Kobe Bryant's instead of a meal. No one pays for my food or my computer or my DSL access, so why should I pay for their life's "desires" and "needs"?

And if I wanted your opinon, kelly, i would have asked for it. The last time I checked I didn't have a sentence here that said "Man, I really need a textbite from the most limp-wristed guy to ever come out of our nation's armed services".

mburbank Jun 11th, 2003 11:01 AM

As opposed to the most limp wristed guy who couldn't get into our nation's armed serviices on account of 'hiving up' and 'fainting out'?

Vinth, I'll take your response as an admission that you can't find even one example of a right wing talk show raising money for the needy.

Just becuase you say it happened doesn't make it true. The same goes for the sneakers your imagnary hungry kids are wearing.

mburbank Jun 11th, 2003 11:02 AM

"Go show your Jewish opinions on a jewish radio! Jew!"

What does that say about a guy who couldn't even make the cut?! Keep diggin' holes, Vinth. I'll be here to fill 'em in. :)

VinceZeb Jun 11th, 2003 11:07 AM

Just becase you can make the cut and I have a condition that prevents me for doing so doesn't make you a better person that I am, kelly.

Besides, I think the girl's name that you have fits your personality perfectly.

Just one I could find in 3 seconds. Rush has given to many different charities and participated in many fundrasing events, but since his site changes daily, I cannot gather any of them at this time.

Care to try again, max?

You have to look up when you talk, the hole is muffling your voice. :)

AChimp Jun 11th, 2003 11:40 AM

I love how the article's author immediately jumps on the comments of one leftist speaker and assumes that everyone thinks the same way. :)

"Just becase you can make the cut and I have a condition that prevents me for doing so..."
-Hivey Clambake

Would this be the nameless condition a dr. told you would never come back and not to worry bout that almost killed you twice except it was only once? Cause the army is all over shit like that. Did you make it all the way to the physical or did the recruiter tell you not to bother. 'Cuase that might have been on account of the fact that you seem kind of insane.

"Care to try again, max?"
No, Maroon. I care to actually go to the link you provided, check it out and see what I think. See, that's wht I do, I read things and then think about them. Congratulations on actually finding something, though. As for sites that change every day, that's why search engines have cache's.

mburbank Jun 11th, 2003 12:04 PM

Okay, here's what I've learned so far. Mr. Hannitty has donated web space and one assumes ir time, as well as time in the form of a personal appearance to the Freedom Alliance scholarship fund. This fund provides education funds for children of servicemen who have died or been injured in the line of duty. Certainly worthy.

Here are the questions one needs to ask:

What is the Freedom Alliance?
Did the money raised by this event go directly to the scholarship fund or did it go into the general budget of the Freedom Alliance? I ask this because Oliver North, Freedom Alliance spokesmen has been known to use charitable organizations as fronts for fundraising for more overtly political causes.
Was Mr. Hannitty compensated for his time or his appearance?
Why this charity in particular, and is the involvement of Oliver North, Right Wing Radio host coicidental?
Has Hannitty ever raised funds for non politically connected charities, such as the United Way, or Uniceff, or Catholic Charities?
How much money was raised and how much went to cover event costs?

All of that being said, if any kids get any of that money for education, I say great. Giving away education, like giving away food is always good. And Vinth, bravo to you for actually following through on something.

Now, don't get all excited and write about ejaculating on my face or making me dress as woman for you. Here's your statement:

"Talk Radio has helped raised millions of dollars for many causes."

Here's what I'm now happy to admit. Hannitty helped North raise scholarship funds. And see? I said that without saying the kids "Shuffled" up to get their money or that they 'gobbled' their education.

Funny you should say that when your article has no figures, no sources, no NOTHING to back up its statement that most of the children who get free lunches at schools are wealthy.

Like to food drive for the poor run by the liberal dept. store manager that Boortz seems to be blasting? Even assuming that the manager was, in fact, wrong about the school lunch program, isn't his action in having a food drive commendable? Or his just another "whiny liberal" to Boortz? If the manager is wrong about the school lunch program, perhaps he was merely misinformed and not deliberately trying to mislead anyone?

Boortz was the individual we were discussing, not Rush!

GAsux Jun 11th, 2003 06:50 PM

Oh yeah...

Here's the other reason the left doesn't listen to talk radio:

ITS BORING!

Protoclown Jun 12th, 2003 10:09 AM

Burbank's fake (but oh so real) Vince quotes make me :lol.

Now Jean, I know you like to try to get into the big-people arguments, but when you are making a failed attempt to seem mature, a toilet goes unscrubbed and a steak uncooked.

Protoclown Jun 12th, 2003 11:24 AM

You're a useless fat fuck.

VinceZeb Jun 12th, 2003 11:29 AM

My boss, my friends, my family and my sorta girl friend would disagree with that.

But I am glad that you care about me, Proto.
