Who the flying feck is Doug Stanhope

A very raunchy comic. He is an acquired taste, yet many who see him wonder why you would want to acquire it.

I mean, I know who he is, but seriously. Who is he

Usually when I want to point to a stand up comedian to illustrate funny, I point to Jimmy Pardo, who is 90% crowd work and improvisational comedy.

A good start is to check out Never Not Funny on i-tunes, he basically talks with other comedians about all sorts of topics. For my money nobody is quicker on their feet comedically.

That's true. I forget a lot that the comics I like are a lot dirtier than most of the cornballs out there and some people can't really handle it. Not that that would be a problem here. You also get the other people I can't stand that say, "What is he doing? Does he tell jokes? All he does is say fuck and shit and people laugh. That's all he does! It's stupid."

If people can't hear the social commentary, that's on them. It's funny, because then they'll like Louis CK whom is exactly the same type of comic as Stanhope. Not that he shouldn't get the accolades - the dude's been around forever and it's about time people take notice.

Ooh! Ooh! Name drop! I was one of about twenty people in the audience at Louis CK's very first performance! He was taking a stand-up class from the amazing Ron Lynch, who used to make his students do open mikes at his after midnight show in Central Square Cambridge.

Most importantly - how hard did he bomb? :D

On the subject, Louie is back for season 2 on FX starting July 23rd, two weeks from now.

I love the show and his stand up, guy is my favorite alive comedian. It was formerly the great George Carlin. I have some rare vinyls of some of his first shows and all of his books.

He didn't bomb. it was a really supportive crowd most of whom knew Ron. He did, however, have a roommate in the audience with notes, and every once in a while he'd ask the roommate where he was in the routine, and what he'd already done, stuff like that. I followed his career in Boston for quite a while, and he got really good really fast. It was a pretty amazing time, especially since then I could stay up all night which I totally can't do now.

As another bit o' trivia, if you've ever seen Wendy Liebman, it was her first night, too.

My favourite comedians at the moment are Bill Bailey, Sean Lock and Frankie Boyle.

Isn't that marvelous.
