Moooonster stories!
A couple months back I picked up a paperback copy of the mammoth book of monsters, which has a bunch of different monster stories from different authors. Soooo, which is your favorite monster story? I mean the semi-classic type of monster, not the cthulhu, eons spanning type.
Speaking of which, has anyone read Clive Barker's "Cabal"? Also, here's the book http://www.amazon.com/Mammoth-Book-M.../dp/0786719761 |
Not a bad book, some good stories in there.
I really enjoy William Hope Hodgson's series of Sargasso Sea stories. Incredible, chilling. One of my favorite "monster" tales is called The Feather Pillow. It's about a pillow that slowly drains the life from a young woman, well, actually, it's about what's in the pillow... Read it here: http://www.horrormasters.com/Text/a0568.pdf |
Cabal was cool. Good movie too. Barker's stuff isn't so great these days.

I'm kinda not too surprised about that, but I wish it wasn't the case. Really liked his style :(

I was a big fan at one point. His books of blood series of short stories were pretty much great reads cover to cover. But, ya, his work is pretty overcomplicated and convoluted now. Still a nice guy though, met him a couple years back.

I know everybody likes it, but Nightmare At 20,000 Feet has always been my absolute favorite monster story.
