I don't know about the US but over here engineers generally engineer things. You can't really be much more specific until you say what type of enginner you want to be; electrial, mechanical, chemical... mathmatical etc etc

I'm still undecided, but after some research it seems like materials science and engineering is the cushiest of all the engineering branches. :picklehat
