It's a huge rip-off.

From what I've seen of the proposed specs, it won't be able to run much of anything. Plus you can run Android on a PC. Plus Android is kind of a crummy platform.

Tegra 3 is cool. I'm going to love playing with it and digging into its insides.

Woah, comedy gold from some rich cunt.

This thing feels like a slimey shit product you see on infomercials. Making money off of what other people have put out for free, without putting in the work for good stuff themselves. Like that fucking hat that you could slip an i-phone into being advertised as a "portable theatre" or something.

I like supporting small time people just trying to make it ahead in the world, but people need to monitor their indie boner for stuff that isn't shitty.

kahljorn Jul 20th, 2012 12:25 PM

but some people like to stick their boners in shitty places

I didn't get that vibe from this at all, though, and that's something I look for in these crowdsourcing things. The goal of an economical, open ARM-based game console isn't a lofty one. People are building these cheap, low-power boards all over the place, (see: Beagle Board, Raspberry Pi.) As I understand it, most of the work is going to be in the software portion - the interface, the content delivery system, etc. and they seem to have people with a pedigree in such things. The design is being worked on by the dude who designed the Kindle., for instance.

My issue would be long term support. Who the fuck is going to make games for this thing. It runs on the Tegra 3 chipset, which people are making games for anyway, and I don't really have a huge background in programming games, but it would seem to me that scaling certain features up for use on a television wouldn't involve too much difficulty. But there could be more issues there than I could ever realize.

I pledged because I want a box to tinker with and it's reasonably priced. The quality of the materials is probably going to be a different matter, though. I'm sure the controller is going to feel like ass.

Id want it only because it's supposedly going to be a hundred bucks, and it'd be awesome to have fully working MAME on a console. I could care less about what developers make for it, i just want to fill it full of emulators and roms.

Fathom Zero Jul 24th, 2012 12:35 AM

That's sounds fantastic. They should make a product that adds absolutely nothing to the marketplace.

Viable business strategy.

ThrashO Jul 24th, 2012 01:29 AM

i really just want it to come out so I can be like "man you played metal gear solid 6 yet for PS4" and my black friends can be like "nah man i only got dat ouyo"
