Strange and obscure toylines from your childhood
Okay, now I got this idea from the wonderful blog Weirdo Toys, and I was wondering, do you remember any really weird toylines from your childhood that nobody else seems to remember? Or do you know of any that aren't uber-obscure, but they bear mentioning because they're just so weird?

I've been trying to track down a complete set of Nightmare Warriors toys for a while now actually. They were just like the He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe toyline, only they were all skeletons. They weren't very popular, but I love me a good skeleton toy and would love to have the complete set sometime.

What about those transformer knock offs that turned into rocks?

Nightmare Warriors
Hey, I just saw that I was getting traffic to the Weirdo Toys blog from this site. I didn't even know this place existed. I have a lot to investigate.
Anyway, I'm gonna try to hang around some in join in some discussions. See you around I hope. Oh, and here's a quick link to the Nightmare Warriors. I had 5 of them when I featured them on the blog, but I have since found the last one I needed. I'll update the article sometime soon I hope. |
Hey Gammo, welcome aboard. Cool blog man. Really good to see the Nightmare Warriors in nice photos like that. Definitely let me know when you've updated it with all 6 of them standing together. I've been trying to track them down for a while now, but nobody seems to have 'em or even remember 'em. It's a damn shame too since they looked so fantastic.

Yeah, well, strange thing is, they actually seem like they were pretty well made high-quality toys. Shame the concept was so stupid. It just goes to show, that although you can polish a turd (As Mythbusters has proven), it's still a turd. And Gammo, you should totally take a look at them on your Weirdo Toys blog. And those Nightmare Warriors look kick-ass! I wonder if anyone's tried to use them for a custom improved Scare-Glow figure? |
i don't have time to read it all but do you have any of the statues of the killer kowns from outer space
|
Rocklords... That has to be the ones I was thinking about. Were they a gobots thing? I dont really remember much other than they sucked.

I dunno, I still prefer the Rock Lords over the Meteorbs:
http://www.i-mockery.com/shorts/stupid-toys2 It's still hard for me to believe Masters of the Universe toys ever got that awful. As for GoBots, no matter what people say about 'em, I'll always love the Super GoBots "Psycho" figure. |
Yeah, I was done with He-Man by the time those things came out. I think I stopped around the time Rokon and Stondar were released. They too transformed into rocks.
|
My mom once bought me a garbage bag full of He-Man toys. It included the one figurine that stank (on purpose!) and they had all been kept in the same box so they all kind of adopted the smell of plastic and skunk shit.
|
I'll have to bust out some pictures of what I have soon.
|
I've missed Blackstar for quite some time now. When the whole everything 80's fad hit a few years ago, I was hoping for a relaunch of that. But no...
I've always been partial to Crasher from GoBots myself. I've been all over the various GoBots characters worked into Transformers. |

I'm still waiting to hear a valid excuse.

My all time favorite was the Masters of the Universe slime pit. When I was a wee one, it's all I could look forward to when I would hang out with my half brother, that and playing with the Emperors Royal Guards from Star Wars.
If you do not own this, then you own nothing BEHOLD THE GLORY OF THE POWER OF GRAY SKULL TEACHING HE MAN A LESSON THROUGH PUTRIDITY! |
The Slime Pit was great... until you put Grizzlor in there. Slime + Hairy figures = :(
|
I fucking loved the Monsters in my Pocket line, and eventually I stopped being able to find them, so I started collecting these weird monsters that came in plastic, purplish eggs. I specifically remember one that looked like a grown up, very mean version of the ghoulie that pops out of the toilet on all of the promo artwork for the original movie.
|
I always like the Trash Bag Bunch. They were these little figures of various monsters and futuristic dudes that came in little green bags that you'd dissolve in water. You wouldn't know which figure you had gotten until that bag was gone.
|
Thanks for linking me to that toy blog, assholes. I was SUPPOSED to be writing a paper, but now that plan is all shot to hell.
|
Oh man, the monster in my pocket line was amazing. I really liked painting the little guys, so amazing.
