I liked it. I think unnecessary is a good way to describe it but I wouldn't say unfunny. It's really funny in small doses but it's purposeful lack of coherence is difficult to tolerate after a certain amount of time.
Last movie I saw was Mamma Mia. Five months ago I never would have predicted that I would prefer Mammia Mia to the new X-Files movie but whaddayaknow. Batman and Wall-e still lead the summer movie pack but gosh, there is something infectious about five year old kids having such fun to ABBA songs.* Last movie I saw on dvd was Gone Baby Gone, the movie Ben Affleck directed last year. That was also surprisingly good, although not perfect. I'm not a fan of that awful device in movies where the big revelation is told in flashbacks to an earlier part of the movie, but from a different angle that reveals something you didn't notice. It needs to stop. I also object to Morgan Freeman being the go-to guy for wise old black men and am angered more with every movie how, even his villain is the same character as his good guy. Versatility is not that guy's forte. * I am an ABBA fan by the way. |
i thought it had as much funny as maybe two of the medium-good episodes? but unfortunately it's stretched out to whatever length it is rather than being a half hour
|
i just watched hellboy II and enjoyed it. i very much like the first one and this one was no different; maybe more action, but still a wonderful blend of action/drama/comedy. and goddamn are the special effects nice. i love the fact that there are probably more props and guys-in-suits than CGI

It reminded me of one of those wacky 70s sitcoms where there'd be a knock on the door and it'd be ANOTHER GUEST STAR! |
this is aqua teen hunger force we're talking about... when does anything seem necessary? it's not like plot actually drives the series what-so-ever
|
The first 10 minutes were funny. That's about it though.
Also regarding doomsday |
Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Really enjoyed this film. Lots of laughs and a good romance story. Best rom-com I've seen in a long time.

Doomsday - Urgh, stupid rubbish shit. Watch Outpost instead.
Felon - Really good film. If you get a chance to check this out on DVD go for it. You won't be disappointed. |
Tropic Thunder and Stepbrothers. I <3'd both
|
Watching Nake Gun 33 1/3. 14 years is a lot of time, O.J. and Anna Nicole Smith both had significant parts in it. Now....well, you know.
|
The Replacements
|
Wizard of Gore (2008) - It was pretty good, but then again I have a strange fixation with Crispin Glover.
|
Just saw Ocean's Thirteen, didn't have Julia Roberts in it, camera work wasn't quite as good as I've seen in the past two movies, but the sense of style and the score in combination with the quality of the acting make it a very good movie.
|
Also, Ocean's Twelve was so sophisticated and artsy, I kind of expected that instead of another casino gig.
|
Finally watched Step Brothers. It's okay. The 1040EZ scene did make me laugh my ass off, though.
|
Just watched Jack Ketchum's The Lost. Pretty fucked up. Seeing as how the only other Jack Ketchum work I've seen is "The Girl Next Door," I'm gonna have to conclude that he is one messed up man. Both pretty good horror/thriller movies but I don't know what his novels that they were based on are like.
|
I saw This Is Spinal Tap for the first time. Pretty awesome.
|
Mortal Kombat is on TBS while I'm on the computer. Kinda wish I had scorpions hell hook to grab the remote.
|
WTF? I went to watch Mortal Kombat and "in the heat of the night" was on. Fucking peachtree.
|
I'm about to watch Bastard Out of Carolina :tastey
|
:tasty*
|
>:
|
I watched 300 for the first time ever. I am the only person I know who hasn't seen it until now. And I have to say when you put the catch phrases in context it's not as awesome as in the trailers. The whole "wall of corpses" idea is pretty nifty when it comes to ancient world military tactics, but what of the sanitation? And Gerard Butler played The Phantom of the Opera in a sissy movie musical before he got his big break with this, so it was hard for me to take him seriously.
I found the whole "war solves all problems" angle a bit jingoistic, but I liked the whole bardic tale of valour mode of telling the story, since I'm a fantasy/mythology fan. |
Fist Full of Dollars.
Why don't they make soundtracks like these anymore? |
The Prestige - This film had the potential to be really good but never quite got there. The stuff about the magic machine that cloned things was pretty stupid and in my opinion undermined the whole point of the film; that magic isn't real or easy.
Christian Bale's accent also annoyed me immensely. I'm pretty sure the only research he did for the part was to watch all the episodes of Fraser which featured Daphne's English brothers. |
I think he's Welsh, so it shouldn't have been as difficult for him to imitate that kind of accent than it would be for an American or Canadian. That being said, I thought it was pretty damn good. It did kind of go a bit fantastical near the end, but the whole Tesla thing kind of set you up for something like that.

I still haven't seen it. Don't have time. |
I recently had the time to rewatch The Truman Show on DVD.
It's perhaps Carrey's best role, after Ace Ventura. |

I almost agree. Fire Marshall Bill from In Loving Color was above Ace Ventura(and I really love Ace Ventura char) |
Letter's from Iwo Jima.
Easily one of the best war movies ever. |
Bastard Out of Carolina - It wasn't really that moving, but it was a good watch. :o
|
The Program
|
Letters From Iwo Jima - I was/am completely blown away by this film. Such an unrelentingly bleak look at the war in the pacific. No glamour, glory or sugar coating.
Redbelt - Had the possibility to be great but it seems like it needed to be an hour longer. Too many plot points seemed rushed which led to an unsatisfying and somewhat confusing ending. Stranger than fiction - Pretty good film overall. Nice to see Will Ferrel playing a character which isn't completely stupid. No sports either. Fool's Gold - Not awful but not great either. The problem I have with films like this and National Treasure is that everything works out way too easily and quickly. If you think about an Indiana Jones film the process of solving a mystery is truly epic. In Fools Gold everything just falls into place with no effort whatsoever. There is also a sub-plot about a spoilt, rich Paris Hilton type who find a new appreciation for her father and the pursuit of knowledge but it's completely lost in the shuffle. This is a shame because I'm tempted to say that would've been a film I'd rather have watched. The Flock - When I watched this I sort of enjoyed it, but the more I think about it the more things annoy me. It's like the message it's trying to convey is "There aren't enough people making sure your kids are safe so you might as well accept that ten thousand paedophiles are going to rape them". It's all a bit alarmist and over the top. |
I watched The Ladies Man on Comedy Central. Easily Tim Meadows' best leading role.
|
Hellboy 2 - First I should say I've never read a Hellboy comic in my life and didn't particularly enjoy the first film. With that in mind it shouldn't come as a huge shock that I didn't really like the sequel either. Though it was quite visually brilliant it seemed to lack important things such as a good storyline and likable characters. Everything was just a bit "meh".
The promotion - Speaking of "meh-ness" The Promotion has it in droves. As much as I like the comic stylings of John C. Reiley this film wasn't funny enough or thoughful enough to be enjoyable. The film almost feels like a failed attempt by Hollywood to cash-in on the recent success of quirky indie films like Juno. |
Kenny - Great little film. It's a funny feel-good type mockumentary following the life of a portable toilet operator called Kenny. Watch it if you get the chance.
|
I watched cannibal holocaust which is actually pretty awesome despite all the turtle dismantling :O this movie was seriously great even if it was really fucked up
|
Planet Terror - I didn't like Deathproof much but this was great. Certainly one of the better zombie films I've seen.
|
I thought that death proof was awesome except for the first 30 minutes or so :(

Rambo (4) - First time I watched this it was a fairly rubbish rip, this time I had the blu-ray and the difference is crazy. The blu-ray version looks and sounds fantastic which really adds to the whole experience. Great film - really enjoyed it.
|
One Missed Call - Total shit
|
Finished watching Superman Returns last night. I liked it, not sure why no one else did. Didn't have a lot of action sequences but was a good movie anyway.
|
Zombie's Halloween.
Based on Rog's review I was waiting it to be a lot worse than it was. Sure, it's not nearly as good as the original, but it was ok. I mostly agree with Rog's opinions, but I have to disagree with few of them. For example giving a crappy childhood as a reason for Michael to go nuts wasn't a bad idea. I've always preferred to get answers to big questions and usually get annoyed if the film doesn't give them nor any clues/hints. Don't get me wrong, having a few unsolved questions is always great IF they fit into the plot, but since this is a slasher film we're talking about I really don't see much room for them, especially if they are supernatural(For example Michael's immortality, the reason that he's just "pure evil" is rather weak. Atleast let me know why he is pure evil, I don't care whether he was born that way or he ate an expired twinkie but I want answers god damnit!). But then again, I'm not horror buff like Rog so I might as well shut up. |
I haven't seen it yet but my problem with this bad childhood scenario is that I liked how he had a pretty big suburban house in the original movie and if anything looked like a spoiled kid. Also, I'm pretty sure the point of Danny was to make a point that Michael Myers was once as normal as he was.
|
Taxi Driver & Disturbing Behavior (odd combination i know)
|
Iron Man - Good film. I don't know if it's just that I prefer origin stories or if other super hero films are crap but it's only really this and Batman Begins that I enjoy.
Outpost - Second viewing of this. Still a great film, can't wait to pick up the blu-ray. |
Dark Knight
The Thing, such great organic effects Taxi Driver. |
High Fidelity. Quite possibly the only movie featuring Jack Black in a role that doesn't make me want to punch him in the face.
|
Bucket List - Good, not great. As much as I like Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson playing off each other it seemed like they were trying to make a sadder version of Shawshank redemption but without the good script. The only part I really enjoyed was Nicholson's eulogy at the end of the film, the rest I could take of leave.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall - In my opinion there are three main points to take away from this film: 1. Jason Segeal is the best thing to happen to comedy since Seth Rogan. 2. A puppet themed dracula rock musical is a great idea and should be made in real life. 3. Russel Brand can be funny if given the right script. |
I haven't seen the actual movie but I saw a deleted outtake reel of Russell Brand improvising and it was pretty funny. Not sure how much he improvised in the finished film.
As a stand-up he's pretty bad, and his radio show is terrible too but i don't think he's entirely unfunny. He seems like a pretty intelligent guy and has made me laugh a few times on BBLB. |
I caught the tail-end of Necessary Roughness today, one of my favorite football comedies. It's worth noting that it's the best movie Rob Schneider and Sen. Fred Thompson ever did together.
|
Frontier(s) - One of the After Dark Horrorfest films. I loved it! Sure it was in French, but hey, I don't mind the subtitles.
|
Snakes on a Plane about to watch 28 Weeks Later

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
I watched this with my parents. Big mistake. Both of them hated it, and I think it traumatised my dad because he once had to save a bus driver from a mentally ill guy with a butcher's knife. I thought it was an enjoyable movie, but they despised it. |
The new Bangkok Dangerous, AND FUCK YOU IMDB IT WAS AWESOME.
|
The Love Guru - Super Lame.
|
Lilo and Stich - Never saw this Disney animated film until now. I liked it alot but I am a big alien nerd.
|
In Bruges - with Colin Farrel, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. Admittedly I wanted watch this because I really like Brendan Gleeson but Ralph Fiennes and Colin Farrell was an added treat. This movie really was amazing, I just finished watching it and might watch it again. Dark but hilarious. 4.5/5.
|
Fargo was on Comedy Central this morning. They did a great job not editing the shit out of hit. Coen Bros. at their best.
|
Hancock - I wasn't really looking forward to this but as it got going I started to enjoy it. Fun film with great visuals.
Juno - I do like Juno but I'm not a huge fan of Ellen Page. I've heard interviews with her and she seems kind of narcissistic. Decent film though. |
Snatch
|
Tron for the first time, actually.
I get it it's a thinly veild metaphor for creationism. Yawn. More speed bikes. |
Burn After Reading - This was a good movie! See this!
Idiocracy - Ugh! This movie sucked! Don't watch this! |
The Curve (1998)
Urban Legend has it that if you kill your college roomate, you get a 4.0 for the semester. So when Chris goes along with Tim pushing Rand off the curve, they have good reasoning for it. Besides, Rand is always being a jerk to his girlfriend Natalie who is Emma's roomate. After his girlfriend Natalie finds out about his death, she kills herself by jumping off the curve. Later Chris's girlfriend Emma tries to convince him that Tim is setting him up for the murder and trying to seduce her. Then suddenly Chris's girlfriend is taking a 4.0. Is Emma behind this too, is Rand really dead, and does Chris have something planned for Tim? If so why everyone is playing with each others head? Written by IMDB |
Postal - Any movie where you can shoot old ladies in the face and even use little kids as shields for oncoming bullets is all right with me!

I really liked Juno, it also made me realize Jason Bateman can play a dick very well. |

My sister headed to Thailand yesterday and because I already see little of her we hung out for a day last week and decided to go see a movie (hopefully Dark Knight because we loved it and wanted to see it again, but they stopped showing it the week before, argh) and went to see Hellboy 2.
And we liked it. But I watched Return of the Jedi last night simply because I found myself struggling to remember what the emperor sounded like. |
I like Ellen Page, but not Juno. Then again, I've been a fan of her since she played Lahey's daughter in Trailer Park Boys.
I thought she was good in Hard Candy and I get that she's trying to choose intellectual roles that she feels good about, but they all seem about the same. I couldn't stand the Juno dialogue, I thought they were trying WAY too hard. |
Deathwatch - Low budget English horror film set in the trenches of WW1. This had the potential to be a really cool film, of all historical locations it's difficult to imagine one more horrific than WW1. The actors were adequate for the roles - the main character being played by the Billy Elliot kid - but the story never really took off and the whole affair felt a bit like a straight to TV film.
Waiting - I remembered liking this film when I first saw it. I think I quite liked the theme of growing up in a small town and watching your peers become "real people" while you remain in arrested development. Something I could relate to when I first watched it. On the re-watch I could relate less-so and actually I can relate far more to the so-called "real people" that the film seems to resent so much. It all just comes across as slightly juvenile and petty. |
Saw III - I didn't hate the first two saws, not movies I'd ever watch a second time but they had there moments. Saw I and II try to be psychological thrillers but don't quite work because there kind of stupid, this one drops all pretenses and becomes torture porn, a term that was coined for Hostel which I never thought was fair but is perfect for this movie. An inconsequential plot used only to string together a bunch of torture scenes, some of which are pretty diabolical I'll admit but I'm really not into that so I can't say I enjoyed this film.

Dynamite Warrior - Really stupid storyline and ridiculous action but yet I enjoyed this a lot. Thai boxing is the new kung fu.
Mirrors - Exactly as bad as White Noise. |
Don't Mess With the Zohan - I still hate Adam Sandler.

The Giant Claw
It's as big as a battleship!! |
The Rocketeer
We used to have a Rocketeer game on our PC back in the early 90s, I used to watch my brother playing it |
That's very touching.

Saw
I got thirty minutes into it before I said, "no, I don't think I will" and turned it off |

Silent Hill again.

DETROIT ROCK CITY
IT WAS AWESOME |
Zombie Strippers - Not as bad as I thought it would be. Had a few good laughs and at least one decent gross-out (two if you count Jenna Jameson's zombified tits :X).
|
20 minutes of hairspray- no excessive amount of dancing and whore jokes could ever make zac effron not a douche
Superbad again- still lewd, still wrong, still awesom |
Puff Puff Pass - It had it's moments but I don't think I'd rent it again.
|
The Flight of Dragons. Classic Rankin-Bass.
|
Dance of the Dead - Not terrible but unremarkable.
|
pineapple express -- i walked out :( Maybe (probably) it was just the pills but I havent felt this frustrated by any movie ever. They try so hard to be funny the entire time and I only found myself laughing occasionally. I didn't even laugh the first 20 minutes. I just felt embarrassed.
