SATURDAY NOTICE: NEW FORUMS! :O

While it's been delayed several times, it looks like this Saturday night is when we're finally going to be releasing the new I-Mockery forums. They'll look very similar to what we have on here now, but it will be using vBulletin's system which is MUCH more stable (ie: no more forum crashes and having to deal with the shitty host that these i-mockery.net forums are currently using) and has many more cool functions. I'm sure there will be some kinks that we'll still need to work out, but this is gonna be a really good switch.

So, the plan is to make the switch late on Saturday night, which will mean we'll have to take these forums down temporarily. Don't worry, ALL of the posts from these forums are being transfered over on Saturday night so nothing should be lost. The new forums will be located on i-mockery.com but you will still be able to access then from i-mockery.net as we'll have a redirect set up.

These new forums will also have a lot of functionality with the new I-Mockery site whenever the hell we actually finish that project. Your user accounts will be integrated with various features on the new site, including making comments about articles and submitting your own reviews 'n what have you. More details on that stuff later...

Anyway, just wanted to give you guys some advanced notice. So if all goes well, this Saturday should be bye bye for phpBB and hello to vBulletin. :o

That's absolutely fantastic.

MarioRPG Jan 22nd, 2007 03:10 PM

Excellent, I'm sure it will be all sunshine and lolipops.

Chojin Jan 22nd, 2007 03:58 PM

I really hope vbulletin doesn't pull the shit phpbb does where I read a thread and suddenly everything on the boards is marked as read.

Mockery Jan 22nd, 2007 04:01 PM

I've yet to see it do anything like that. But like I said, we admins (POWER!) will have to tweak the boards over the first week or so after they have been launched. I'm sure we'll find all sorts of little things we want to fixed, but that'll be a good way for us to get acclimated with all of our newfound powers. POWERS!

noob3 Jan 22nd, 2007 04:06 PM

give me the power to do things

Chojin Jan 22nd, 2007 04:06 PM

Speaking of powers, guess what guys?

The new board has an ignore function.

liquidstatik Jan 22nd, 2007 04:12 PM

Sounds great :D

I can't wait for the whole site to get done over :O

Can I request a name change

I'm sick of this one :(

Mockery Jan 22nd, 2007 04:15 PM

Not a problem. In fact, I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think users might be able to change their names on their own. If not, it might be a feature we'll be able to add in at some point.

Emu Jan 22nd, 2007 04:17 PM

Proboards has a thing where you have a set sign-in ID and you can change the appearance of your name yourself. Something like that?

Grislygus Jan 22nd, 2007 04:19 PM

Wow, an ignore function. Newcomers are going to get a traditional Amish shunning. This is going to be awesome.

Rabid Child Jan 22nd, 2007 04:24 PM

Will there be the same avatar size restrictions?

Preechr Jan 22nd, 2007 04:36 PM

VB can be a pain in the ass, at least the version I used to use, particularly with post timing. Make sure your host synchs the clocks on their servers, otherwise it's just a mess as VB, at least the version I used to use, didn't used to have a method for setting the clock manually.

All this, and right before phpbb3 comes out?

DuFresne Jan 22nd, 2007 04:40 PM

I'm concerned about this ignore feature. Yeah, it sounds great on the surface, but think about it: most of the fun from these boards comes from reading and responding to posts from people who are really good at embarrassing themselves. How boring is this site going to become if every respected member is just shunning the noobs all the time? :/

Ninjavenom Jan 22nd, 2007 04:44 PM

hooray!

I remember when these forums were new :tear

I doubt it would be used too often, most people here enjoy tormenting idiots. I can't imagine anyone blocking a barrel of laughs like Geggy. There's only one person here who I would ignore, actually.

Same here. I wouldn't ignore a single user and I think it's stupid for anybody to do so, honestly. Regardless, if we did find that people abused this so-called feature, we would probably just disable it.

Emu Jan 22nd, 2007 05:07 PM

I think the purpose of the ignore feature is to filter out posts by spambots and other solicitor things, and people who ritualistically post pornography.

Spambots will have a harder time getting through and there's no need to ignore them since their accounts are deleted as soon as we notice 'em. Same for anybody who breaks the rules by posting pornography 'n what not.

AChimp Jan 22nd, 2007 08:13 PM

I swear I will kill whoever changes their name. Hard enough to keep track of the new people with all the old ones going on and messing things up.

ArrowX Jan 22nd, 2007 08:22 PM

I'm changing mine :D

just because I hate this name :(

Supafly345 Jan 22nd, 2007 08:27 PM

That's what I liked about this board, you couldn't change your name at nauseum, or delete your old posts. It kept things solid.

Chojin Jan 22nd, 2007 08:33 PM

I agree that no-one should change their name.
