I prefer the music they put out from around the "Fables of the Reconstruction" and "Life's Rich Pageant" timeframe (early to mid '80s).

Their song "Nightswimming" is one of the most beautiful songs ever.

I find that I like the mid-90ish R.E.M. better though. The "Monster" album comes to mind.

I have an old R.E.M tape that I got from my mum, along with a few beatles tapes :o. I love good ol' soft rock :(.

My sister went through a period when she listened to nothing but REM. She'd have a tape in the car that would be played all the time.

I like most of their songs, but... when I hear "Shiny Happy People" I can't think straight until I punch someone in the throat.

I like the songs they're known for. Like "Man On The Moon" and "Losin My Religion". I haven't heard "Shiny Happy People" though.

"Shiny Happy People" is definitely one of the worst songs ever.

I get them. I just don't enjoy Shiny Happy People. I got the joke, it's funny once, and then it should never be heard again.
