I'm starting to think that animal-oriented forums are just a complete waste of time :(
Years ago, I got into a thing with a poster on a newt board who was incensed that I was cleaning my newts' tank. Her stance was that cleaning would wash off newts' protective slime, and that I was abusing/killing them. She was all for having them taken away from me.
Well, yeah, if you scrub them with chlorinated water or something...but I was using my old Biology Major protocol of scrubbing with good clean nonchlorinated water and leaving a bit of dirty gravel so the balance was restored. Long story short, the buggers lived almost 15 years. I think we did okay. :rolleyes
Now, with the puppy slated to eventually go into training as my service dog, I've posted to a few dog behavior boards and it's started all over again. As a matter of fact, I think anything anyone says looks like "I'm an idiot and don't know nearly as much as you, and I'm just going to proceed with abusing my animals unless you step in and give me hell." I don't get what's in it for people who want to behave like everyone else is abusing their animals. Do they picture themselves as Snow White, with birds landing on their shoulders and stuff?
I wish they'd just read the entire post and not tell me that they hope I'm not expecting my puppy to be a service dog immediately. I mean, duh :(
