Fuck...this really seems like something worth going for but I'm terrible with making comic strips and that kinda shit.

Seven Force Apr 4th, 2006 02:02 AM

I'm going for it.

Give it a shot, the sprites are even provided for you. It's a simple cut 'n paste job. There's no excuse not to enter any of the contests I run when you consider how easy it is to enter pretty much all of 'em and the prizes that are up for grabs. :o

RaNkeri Apr 4th, 2006 02:19 AM

This looks awesome :O I've done sprite comics before, so I have to give it a try :)

James Apr 4th, 2006 03:47 AM

So is this strictly sprite comics, or can people draw their entries too? Because if so, fuck. :(

How long should a strip be?

Rez Apr 4th, 2006 03:56 AM

fuck, i actually want the prize this time...

RaNkeri Apr 4th, 2006 05:17 AM

Oh, 1 questiong though, are you allowed to make more than one comic entry? :/

WilfordBrimley Apr 4th, 2006 07:05 AM

I get my diabetes supplies from liberty medical. And well, if you're a diabetic, you should too.

It says you can, so I'm assuming as much.

Chojin Apr 4th, 2006 07:57 AM

Why did you wait to have a good prize for a non-forum-event ;<

you were always sure to see some random celebrity appearing in an episode wondering just how their careers had somehow reached this new low
BLASPHEMY! Doing this show was a high point in those celebirties' careeers!

All the prizes are good prizes. If somebody doesn't like the prize, they could always sell it off and buy somethin better. That being said, the lackadaisical attitude towards the forum-exclusive contests so far has been less than inspiring, so I'm only doing one at a time for the forums until the people on here show me evidence that I should do otherwise. "Meet me halfway, across the sky" :(

Depends on the celebrity. In the case of Sgt. Slaughter, yeah, you're probably right. ;)

Guitar Woman Apr 4th, 2006 02:26 PM

Oh man, I wish I was funny :(

MarioRPG Apr 4th, 2006 03:31 PM

Hell, I'll badly attempt it.

RaNkeri Apr 4th, 2006 03:40 PM

Well, I hardly believe my attempt would be any better. It's hard to come up with an idea, when I've almost never played Mario Bros. :(

Chojin Apr 4th, 2006 09:20 PM

The forum events you've been doing have prizes that have nothing in common with the MO of the website. The people that are here are usually here because they're a fan of that site and those things. I don't think it's too big a stretch to assume that there will be more support for a Mario contest than one where you win a baseball signed by Lou Gherig.

deAdeNdz Apr 5th, 2006 12:33 AM

talk about an epic television series......talk about some great acting!

(In dumbass voice) DO THE MARIO

Uh, while video games are definitely a big thing with this site, cheezy stuff like the Electric Company and Charles In Charge (along with Bibleman) are exactly what this site is about. The Electric Company set even had rare Spider-Man cartoons it.

I should also note that it's been my experience that the people on these forums are lazier about pariticipating in contests than the people on the real site itself (I get more entries in 12 hours from .com than I do from the entire duration of the contests here on .net sometimes), so I'm more inclined to give the people from .com better prizes to compete for. They may not be hilarious, but at least I can usually count on them really trying with their entries rather than doing the bare minimum (or nothing at all).

With these forum exclusives I'm simply trying to make the boards that much more entertaining by providing free gifts to the people who participate in these events. When it comes right down to it, the prizes will get better as the participation gets better. There's an awesome DVD set coming up on the 15th this month for the next forum-exclusive event too... so that will be as good a test as any.

:imock

yea a forum that actually offers regular prizes and contests for its members is fucking awesome. This place is sick like that! Most forums exist simply to ban people for using "bad words"

Sethomas Apr 5th, 2006 02:00 AM

i cant wait for a 311 contest lol how awsome wud that be

Jixby Phillips Apr 5th, 2006 02:02 AM

were there spiderman CARTOONS on the Electric Company? I remember LIVE ACTION spider man, but no cartoon spiderman.

Hrm, good question... I know the Electric Company released a series of their own Spider-Man comic books and I thought they played some animated Spidey cartoons as well, but yeah it looks like there was live stuff. http://www.spiderfan.org/shows/tv_electric_co/

There was that live action Spidey show from the 70's too... I wish they'd put that shit on DVD.

Chojin Apr 5th, 2006 07:35 AM

I'd still say that 80s memoribilia is more the site's focus than 70's. I'd still say that you'd have a better turnout for forum events if they included more appropriate prizes. I think you're right that a .com contest would have a higher turnout, but overall turnout isn't the point of having a forum event - the point is to make the forum more interesting.

I'll plan something with you in the future and foot some of the bill for a neat 80sish prize in the future. It'll be gangbusters, just you wait and see.

Skulhedface Apr 5th, 2006 09:09 AM

Just one thing...

I come unequipped with Photoshop... I hope MSPaint comix will do the trick.
