I think we should have made a thread a while ago called LET'S COMPLAIN ABOUT DEXTER. Or maybe LET ME COMPLAIN ABOUT DEXTER, depending who you ask.

I really don't know. It's the same thing I experienced with Oz (and, hell, half the same cast), this knowledge that it's just getting sloppier and sloppier as time goes on but the desire to see it through to the end. In the first few seasons, Dexter had almost supernatural intelligence and physical capability. Now he makes more and more un-Dexter-like decisions, more silly slip-ups, and seems flat-out dumber.

Maybe that's the whole "becoming more human" thing, or some sort of indicator of the internal conflict in progress, idk really but it seems like the strength of the character is in steady decline.

I'm also getting irritated with the frequency of last-minute saves. It's got me wondering if next week Deb will be trussed up on a train track with some rent collector standing over her and twisting his moustache.

How many more episodes left? One? Two? It's felt like it needed to wrap up for a while now.

Mad Melvin Dec 13th, 2011 08:13 AM

One more episode to go. This season has been fucking horrible. Just flatout lazy writing and sub-plots that don't seem to amount to nothing, like Dexter breaking his trophies by accident, and it's never mentioned again or the idiotic episode where Dexter becomes evil and then the show presses reset at the end. The main villain is boring as all hell and what's with the borderline incest twist they threw in the last episode?

Maybe the shittiest season since season 3. Or 5. Can't decide which one is the worst.

Dimnos Dec 13th, 2011 10:51 AM

I actually like 3 much better than this season. Not saying its good, but it at least had a direction it tried moving in. I dont even remember season 5.

Kitsa Dec 13th, 2011 03:00 PM

I never remember season numbers. I hated the british chick season and I hated the lumen season. I think Deb's the only female character on Dexter I like.

I was confused about the sudden disappearance of the Irish nanny from last season. I loved her from other stuff she was in (Father Ted, first and foremost). She just sort of was swapped out with Angel's sister (had we ever heard of her before?) with no explanation whatsoever.

I don't know if they went the incest route because the two were married in real life, or not. It would be double weird to be an actor simultaneously making out with your "sibling" and your ex.

Also, I am good and ready for LaGuerta to get the fuck out of Dodge. That's one of the few ways the book series was better...got rid of her right away.

How great would it have been to get Tom Hanks to play Professor Gellar? I think he could do really good creepy if he tried, sort of like Robin Williams.

10,000 Volt Ghost Dec 19th, 2011 05:07 PM

Sadly this was not the case

no, sir, I didn't like it.

Ok, I liked "Oh God".

Cant say I have ever agreed with you more. The season sucked minus Def and the "Oh God." in the finale. :lol

Spoilers!

Kitsa Dec 20th, 2011 07:37 AM

Yeah, but since they went the incest route this season, there's always the possibility that they'll be in bed together at some point next season and that just creeps me right the hell out, adoption-siblings or not. I think it might erode his status as an antihero.

10,000 Volt Ghost Dec 20th, 2011 09:07 AM

What happened at the end this season is what should have happened last season.

Kitsa Dec 20th, 2011 10:04 AM

is it just me, or other than "oh god", was the badguy death scene a little no-frills there at the end?

and was I the only one who noticed that his crotch was a shining beacon of light?

I haven't actually watched it yet, just read what happened because I wanted some robo doakes

Someone had to do it.

Yeah Bad guys death was lacking otherwise.

Oh, yeah! Is it just me or is Dexters kid really fucking ugly?

ONLY A MOTHER COULD LOVE.

I still need to watch seasons 3 and 4. I didn't know david carridines brother was dead, thought he just went back to the fbi or whatever it is.

Kitsa Dec 22nd, 2011 11:20 PM

I actually thought Dexter's kid kind of looks like him. Same smirk. I don't have any opinion about him otherwise (or them, since child actors are usually twins- don't know).

I didn't understand the whole Carradine guy thing. I thought David Carradine talked that way because of badly fitting dentures, but his brother talked like that too.

I think the show would have been more interesting with his OTHER brother, in character as Lewis from Revenge of the Nerds, in the relationship with Deb. Now that I would have watched.

Dead in the fourth one, I think.

Don't care - he's not Doakes. :\

There's hope, fz. I mean, look at Ghost Dad and Biney. Maybe Doakes will come back from the dead to torment him too. Other than Burn Notice he's doing fuck-all.

King Hadas Dec 26th, 2011 06:17 PM

Would you guys really want Doakes coming back with the show the way it is?

Fathom Zero Dec 26th, 2011 06:22 PM

He'd fit in perfectly. Doakes is a cheesy character himself, but he's got no pretenses about it.

King Hadas Dec 26th, 2011 06:34 PM

Let me just say if Doakes had survived to this season, a shrink probably would have been telling him he was the one in love with Dexter.

New season of Archer starts in two weeks. Still can't edit the thread title. Is the time limit set to 0 for editing thread titles in the admincp?

For some reason editing the original post edits the thread title only once in a while. I can do it the secrat way though

I watched a few episodes of Community and it's only ok! Not bad, not great. It looks like the kind of show where I'd be extremely disappointed every time if I were actually waiting for it week by week

Dimnos Jan 18th, 2012 09:37 AM

Its a total hulu lunch break show but some episodes are gold.

Esuohlim Jan 19th, 2012 04:34 AM

I laughed really hard at the part where Ken Jeong flips a complete shit while waiting for John Oliver's psychological experiment to start, but other than that it's been more interesting than funny. Chevy Chase and the guy who plays Abed are the best people on the show.

Zomboid Jan 19th, 2012 10:19 AM

Stick with it. It gets considerably better and is one of my favorite shows now, despite having the same problems you're having with the early episodes.

Rongi Jan 22nd, 2012 02:02 AM

I watched the first season of Louie yesterday

I think it's probably one of the best...things to air on television. I hesitate to call it a sitcom because it really isn't, it's more like a collection of short films.

Rongi Jan 22nd, 2012 02:13 AM

Also I've been watching Ren & Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life on netflix.

Ren & Stimpy took a nosedive after that John K fella got kicked out, but holy shit some of those episodes he made still creep me out.

Esuohlim Jan 22nd, 2012 02:13 AM

I agree man Life with Louie is like a religious experience

Rongi Jan 22nd, 2012 02:21 AM

I actually did like that show when I was a kid :(

Esuohlim Jan 22nd, 2012 02:31 AM

I think I did too :( I remember it would be on back-to-back with something called the Shnookums and Meat Show which I also liked

Zomboid Jan 22nd, 2012 12:15 PM

I loved Schnookums and Meat! If memory serves, there was three segments. One was about a those two, one was about a cowboy, and one was about a...superhero chipmunk, or something. I remember that one of the villains from the superhero one was a french lumberjack, or something.

Nick Jan 23rd, 2012 07:19 AM

The best thing about Tex Tinstar was that he was voiced by Johnny Bravo.

Mad Melvin Feb 1st, 2012 04:29 AM

American Horror Story

Watched the whole first season. It was a bit like Lost, as in you couldn't stop watching it because you just had to know what happened next. Oh, and the ending sucked as well, but not quite as hard as in Lost.

The first three or four episodes were outstanding. Very eerie and disturbing with a touch of David Lynch. The viewer is kept in the dark and can't be sure whats real and whats not. Then the mystery starts to unravel, and it's all kinda dumb with a fair share of plot holes. There are some good twists thrown in there, though. I'm still glad I watched this, 'cause there is some genuinely disturbing shit in here, which you don't see so much in television series. Plus, the opening sequence is amazing.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, American Horror Story is an anthology based series. Season 2 will have nothing to do with season 1. It will tell a different story with different actors.

That's what Heroes was supposed to be, which would've been great. As much as I like TV more than movies it really sucks that network meddling exists and can really fuck up a good show.

My dad's getting into American Horror Story and keeps harping on it. I thought it looked kind of stupid but I might have to actually check it out.

Zomboid Feb 1st, 2012 03:09 PM

I love horror anthology series. I've sorta been meaning to check that one out but never really got around to it. I guess now's as good a time as any.

I'm watching The Wire again. Just finished season two last night. I remember Milhouse saying something about season two being better on second viewing, and it's true. I think at first go, it was just really jarring that they drastically changed the main characters and setting, and I still liked it, but I was missing some things from the first season. I definitely felt more for the characters this time. Some tragic shit, yo.

D? Honestly, I think he's my favorite character from season one. His whole arc is probably the saddest of the first few seasons, for me.

kahljorn Mar 11th, 2012 12:42 PM

Same. he was definitely one of my favorite characters, although i thought he was going to be around a lot more.
but yea I saw him on southland as a cop and it basically made me want to watch the show

Esuohlim Mar 11th, 2012 03:12 PM

Season 2 was also better for me the second time around because I was already familiar with Ziggy and I didn't get as annoyed with him. I could actually sympathize because you can follow his gradual descent into completely snapping.

kahljorn Mar 11th, 2012 03:27 PM

Zomboid Mar 11th, 2012 03:40 PM

Man, fucking Ziggy. I agree that upon second viewing, you can actually start to see where he's coming from. I've met people with similar personality traits, but obviously not to those extremes. Poor, dumb bastard. I sympathized with Frank this time around, too.

I'm into the Hamsterdam stuff now.

Mad Melvin Mar 11th, 2012 04:19 PM

I have a really hard time deciding which season of The Wire is the best one. After first viewing I would have propably picked season 4 over the others, but after seeing the whole series a few times, I dunno. The only cons (rimshot) I can think of are the first half of season 1, which is kinda slow and the whole serial killer plotline of season 5. Seasons 2-4 are awesome all the way.

Now that I read what I just wrote, I realized there was no point to any of that. The Wire is the best television series that has ever been, so I had to say something.

Zomboid Mar 12th, 2012 12:14 AM

I'd say that season 5 is the weakest, for sure. It's got some good parts, but it's just not as strong as the other ones.

the first season had about 2 good episodes w/ some good bits here and there
the first half of the 2nd season was a whole lot of nothing w/ only good bits at the last few minutes per episode
the 2nd half of the season really picked things up

Tadao Mar 15th, 2012 12:24 AM

I got pissed off watching the 1st season because it started turning into a love triangle soap opera. Then I looked at the comic and it was just as stupid.

Dimnos Mar 17th, 2012 09:28 PM

I think in both they realized it was lame and dropped it. However, In the show Shane is still alive and I'm sure the subject will arise again to cause tension between he and Rick.

Spoilers!

Mad Melvin Mar 18th, 2012 06:07 AM

The whole second season of Walking Dead has been retarded. I hate Rick and all the women with passion. Why does Rick have to say every line like it's the most important thing anyone has ever said, punctuating almost every word and half-whispering to appear deep and tormented? Why are the characters so goddamn stupid and blind? Why do the zombies have magical teleportation powers? Why the hell do I keep watching this?
