In my experience visiting most message boards, the "new guy" is generally ignored for a while. Maybe a mindless "Hey" thread would be enough to get people to post and make things interesting.
Oooh! Yes, a simple stupid "Hey" post! Yes, that makes sense that a "Thou Shalt Not Post Something Pointless and Stupid" law would be explained in the Guidelines.
