Thats because it isn't giving the whole story.

"The suspect car, a dark BMW believed to be carrying several gunmen, disappeared untouched by the shooting."

Three of the thieves (that was what those in the dark BMW were) were killed actually, or so the Iraqi police alledged after the incident took place. If this is typical of the shoddy journalism in this piece, I would say it can be safely disregarded.
