I think scholars have beat the dead horse of biblical symbolism for quite enough centuries on the topic of the number twelve to rule out any need for a thirteenth apostle. Then again, who doesn't like conspiracy theories. I can understand there being nuts out there who take the Bloodline Grail idea seriously, but now it's just stupid how much attention it's been getting.
Ninja, I've encountered a good many stories on the topic. One that sticks out as badass was one of a French national martyr of the Dark Ages who, after being decapitated, carried his own head in his arms and set it atop a hill half a mile away. I was thinking it was St. Denis, but the Catholic Encyclopedia doesn't mention that quirky part about his death.
