I think you should cut right at the joint itself. Less bone, more cartilage.
If you have one of those electric turkey carving knives you should try that.
Make sure you use a tourniquet before you start. Have a friend with blowtorch cauterize it, because odds are you won't be in any condition to do it yourself.
