The Old political force of the Venezuelan bourgeoisie, backed by the US govt and industry and the New political force of the workers, peasants, soldiers and students. The old forces instigated the coup, and were defeated by the new forces. The old forces tried to hold a referendum to oust Chavez (using new constitutional law put in place under Chavez) but were defeated by the New forces.
