"Miller's Crossing" IS hard to follow the first time through, there are so many different characters and some of them they talk about and talk about forever before you actually see them (Steve Buscemi's character, who is only in one scene but is referred to over and over as doing things off screen). And the period slang and dialogue can kind of throw you off a bit the first time through.
But watch it again and I guarantee you it will be about ten times better. It's my favorite Coen brothers film.

Maybe you're just a mental midget and have trouble with films. In comparison to most movies, Miller's Crossing is very easy to follow. It just is.
