e.t. is probably one of the best movies ever made for one reason alone... it is the story of christ as an alien! now before everyone goes mental let me tell you how i came to that conclusion. first off he comes from the sky. second he tells you to "be good" all the time. third he can mysteriously heal wounds. and finally just look at the poster it is a take on the painting on the roof of the sistine chapel! perfect allegory and you know what that is just my opinion you may interpret as a nice family film and i'll agree with you but just look deeper!
