I COULD be wrong about this, so don't quote me on it, but I seem to recall hearing somewhere that Tolkien hated gay people because of his religious beliefs.
IF that's true, I find it amusingly ironic that just about everybody in this day and age thinks Frodo and Sam are gay lovers and that in the movies Gandalf was played by a brilliant gay man.
I hope I'm wrong though.
