In Japan's pop culture, effeminate men are often admired. Someone remind me of the term they use.
And dandies used to be attractive in high European society for a while. But I think that was a couple of hundred years ago.
Oh, and FF7's plot had way too many inconsistencies to bother picking it apart. I remember filling three pages of a notebook with an analysis in seventh grade and I couldn't figure out a fucking thing for certain. Then I come online and read a couple of well-written faqs and find out that no one else could either.
Kinda like Chrono Cross...
