Yep. Couldn't agree more.

The great part about this big mistake is that, after invading the two countries in the middle east that we had easy reasons to, we have been able to move all our troops out of Saudi, which removes their excuse for not beginning their reforms... which we're still waiting on to begin... and positions us on either side of Iran and right next to Syria.

"B-b-but, if that's what they wanted, why didn't they SAY that when they were trying to justify the war?!"

Yeah, they could have said that, but that would have been pretty dumb.

"We are gonna invade Iraq, who sorely deserves it, to better position our forces to apply military pressure to the greater Middle East which will supplement the diplomatic pressure that they've become so good at ignoring and the sanctions, which they tend to use to make us look bad, aggravating the situation. Look, nothing else works, so we have to be able to threaten them with the forcible collapse of their little tinhorn theocracies. We have to do something with the troops we already have over there, because they've pretty much wore out their welcome in Saudi. It appears they were only welcome while they were pulling Saudi asses out of the fires of Gulf War I, and now they'd like to have our bases empty..."

Yep, that would have fit right in with the Nationalistic fervor of the moment. Everybody in the country is waving a flag and looking to even the score, and Uncle Sam stands up and tells the world that we're not strong enough to solve any of these problems directly, so we've got to do what will appear to be pretty stupid and will likely piss off the Euros and Ruskies that are so heavily invested in Iraq's "stablilty." Yep, that's our big plan: We take over Iraq so we can scowl at the main terror sponsors from directly across their borders. Sound good?

How can someone who obviously thinks so much of their ideas have so little respect for expressing them? How can someone who so yearns to be taken seriously make so little effort?!
