Dean isn't going to make the party more conservative. But perhaps he'll be able to open up some doors and allow some dissent within the ranks. I think the Party needs to dare to get poor grades from interest groups, particularly from groups like NARAL and others.
And despite what the talking heads say, he won't push them to Bolshevism either. The bottom line is that policy will still need to come from the elected grassroots. Dean's job will be to organize, raise money, and coordinate the party message. He's very good at the first two, and the third one will be the key to his succes or failure.
