My translation of the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1884 has it as "alienation", and it is in regards to religious disenfranchisement. Interestingly, I found elsewhere that Marx says for "self-alienation" the word "Selbstentfremdung". See, I had to check this because I was damn sure that the aforementioned was a real word, even though it's been almost three years since I've read Marx seriously.
