It's not like the inevitable fall of communism and the eventual opening of China as an open market wasn't realized 30+ years ago. It's one of the few things for which I give Nixon credit. If his plans to trade with the Chinese would have been followed up with subtle machinations/manipulations when the Chinese were new to the world market and still developing, perhaps we wouldn't be in our present predicament.
