Er, howso? America never really ceased being militarily involved in the world. Hell, we are the top arms supplier worldwide, easily. Throw on top of that a series of small conflicts since Vietnam (Grenada, Bosnia, Kosavo) and it's no so much we got complacent, we just realized Kennedy was right about the scale of arm conflict for us narrowing, focusing.
