I think it's blatantly obviouse that NOBODY did enough, but maybe that's being over reactionistic to you.


I haven't read "Hitler's Pope", but as you know, there are some pretty damning claims against him. I also know there was a commission in the late 90's, made up of both Catholics,and Jews, which according to preliminary reports, also came up with some harsh conclusions. I do find it suspect that the Vatican wouldn't open their archives so they could continue their report to a conclusion.

That said, I'm also aware that the claims he "didn't utter a word" are a little bit off. My understanding is that he did do a great deal more then he's given credit for. It would have been great if he excommunicated Hitler before he died, and I really wish his roll was less ambigious, or even diplomatic, so that he could have provided a greater reaching message of outright condemnation.
