'i haven't been able to remember my dreams for a while now maybe i should start taking melatonin again'

That's how you're actually supposed to sleep. sleeping without dreams is wholesome and complete(very healthy, supposedly), sleeping with dreams means you're not sleeping properly. The theory being that sleeping with dreams means your mind is awake, and the goal of sleeping being that of resting the mind and all human bodies.
If you want dreams try sleeping after 2, theoretically that might work.
